The Leidos Civil Group is looking for a Senior Writer/Editorial Lead to support our Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) contract with the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), U.S. Department of Justice. As the Senior Writer/Editorial Lead for the OJJDP team, you will work with an experienced group of communications professionals dedicated to supporting our client’s mission to enhance the welfare of America’s youth and broaden their opportunities for a better future.

Please Note: Although this is primarily a full-time telework position, candidates must be available to attend occasional in-person meetings at the client office in Washington, DC, at their own expense.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform high-level original writing and editing of OJJDP communications products, including speeches, blogs, publications, annual reports, and special writing projects.

  • As editorial lead, oversee and review writing assignments completed by other team members to ensure they comply with Office messaging priorities and style preferences; provide substantive feedback/guidance to colleagues.

  • Attend staff meetings, strategic planning and policy meetings, product development and dissemination meetings, and other ad hoc meetings with program staff and senior leadership.

  • Work with OJJDP leadership, OJP program office staff, and partner/grantee organizations to develop publications and other written products.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of writing, editing, and style guidelines and best practices.

  • Manage production of reports, speeches, and other communication products and provide quality control throughout the process.

  • Translate complex social science and juvenile justice research and technical materials into plain language for use by non-technical audiences and write about the implications of this research for a wide range of juvenile justice and child protection audiences, policymakers, and the public.

Minimum Experience:

  • At least 8 years of directly relevant work experience in writing, editing, and reviewing speeches, publications, online content, and other documents related to criminal justice or social science topics.

  • Strong writer with experience writing non-technical content on criminal justice and/or social science topics.

  • Demonstrated experience and/or examples of published works, written or edited.

  • Demonstrated experience reviewing the work of others and providing editorial feedback.

  • Ability to create content for a variety of print and online media.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills and knowledge of style guidelines. Experience with Chicago Manual of Style and AP Style preferred.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing/evolving client needs.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field (e.g., English, Communications).

Location: This is a remote position.

Security Clearance: Candidates must have the ability to acquire a Public Trust clearance.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $75,400.00 - $116,000.00 - $156,600.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
