In Neuroscience Discovery we are looking for an experienced and curious researcher taking a leading role in developing and running mass spectrometry-based analyses supporting in vitro and in vivo activities enabling the development of future therapies in the field of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The lab-based position is located within the Proteostasis Team and focuses on protein homeostasis, misfolding and degradation in the context of neurodegenerative diseases.

Key responsibilities include:

  • You will take a leading role in developing and running mass spectrometry-based analyses supporting in vitro and in vivo activities of Neuroscience Discovery
  • As a member of the Proteostasis’ team you will design, execute, and interpret critical (phospho-) proteomic studies for demonstration of Mode-of-Action (MoA), and advancement of pipeline projects through milestones
  • You will cross-functionally work together with colleagues from Computational Biology and in vivo Pharmacology, as well as global teams supporting MoA and Proof-of-Principle studies
  • You will be jointly responsible for keeping our mass spectrometers and associated HPLCs operating and train less experienced colleagues in using respective instruments. You will act as a back-up for lipidome analyses.
  • In the Neuroscience Discovery organization, you will engage yourself in identification & characterization of novel targets for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, esp. Alzheimer dementia as well as Parkinson’s disease, and follow the technological landscape of mass spectrometry regarding new methods and instrumentation.



  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 8 years of experience, PhD and no experience necessary, ideally in chemistry, biology or pharmacy
  • You gained hands-on expertise in operating mass spectrometers for at least 3 years.
  • You are highly skilled in operating and daily maintenance of Nano-HPLCs and high-resolution mass spectrometers (ideally Orbitrap instruments)
  • You have hands-on experience in designing and executing (phospho-) proteomic studies using cells or tissues. You are trained in DDA and DIA analyses and familiar with relevant software, e.g. MaxQuant or Spectronaut
  • You are versed in general cell biology and biochemical methodology
  • You are skilled to analyze and present data in broader context and eager to defend data during scientific debate
  • Additional analytical/technical experience (e. g. CE-MS, automation) is beneficial
  • A solid background in Neuroscience / neurodegenerative diseases is advantageous
  • As a highly motivated, self-driven and results-oriented person with excellent communication skills you are driven by innovative ways of thinking to improve processes, methods, systems or services
  • As a global acting company, we presume proficient English language skills and willingness to learn German
