Medtronic is looking for a Senior Principal Process Engineer to join the Manufacturing Production Continuity Team. As a part of Global Operations and Supply Chain (GO&SC) - Operations Innovation, The Production Continuity Team will deliver expert process/product manufacturing skillset across the Medtronic enterprise. The Senior Principal Engineer role will collaborate across the Medtronic plant network, working with Global Manufacturing organization, Quality, and the Operations Innovation team to deliver tactical and reactive improvements in manufacturing processes. They will focus on quickly responding to our global footprint to quickly solve problems to the root cause, or identify a strategic project to solve the challenge, then mentor and oversee the team implementing.
A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Gemba – Connect directly to manufacturing sites that are aligned with your skillsets to understand the technical challenges forcing line down situations
  • Quickly deploy, and solve problems to the root, while navigating our regulatory and quality matrix to pragmatically solve problems
  • The process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, and evaluating information to reach an answer or conclusion.
  • Knowing where and when to use the right tool.
  • Challenging assumptions and ensure we get to true root cause
  • Encourage and recognize Brilliant Basics. Encourage the best simplest fix.
  • Simplify or reduce barriers to implementing engineering fixes. Focus effort on value added activity.
  • Mentor manufacturing engineers in the sites on the respective processes in which your capabilities lie
  • Become a recognized Manufacturing Process Development Subject Matter Expert (SME) partner with network manufacturing sites to ensure consistent process development performance.
  • Act as a role model / mentor throughout the Medtronic manufacturing engineering community to promote improvements in technical rigor, and adoption of advanced tools and techniques.
  • Collaborates with Global Manufacturing to identify process capability-based improvement programs.
  • Collaborates with Quality to understand risk in quality performance that may force a production stoppage in the near or long term.
  • This role has multiple locations including but not limited to: North Haven CT, Minneapolis MN, Tempe AZ, Boulder CO, Puerto Rico, Galway, Ireland
  • The ability to travel globally up to 50%

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Requires a University Degree and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree in technical field
  • Experience work in a highly regulated environment; medical device, pharmaceutical, aerospace, or similar.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and applicable Quality System and Regulatory Requirements.
  • Knowledge of DOE, statistical analysis methods and data analysis tools (Minitab, JMP, etc.).
  • Knowledge and understanding of product and process risk analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical/statistical problem solving. Advanced understanding of structured problem-solving methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze both simple and complex part/product designs to identify opportunities for manufacturing process capability and yield improvements.
