GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a motivated Senior Environmental Specialist to be part of our Power Business Unit. This position is based out of our Louisville, KY office, working on a variety of projects in Kentucky and surrounding states. We are searching for an energetic, outgoing person that is willing to learn a variety of environmental engineering skills to support projects associated with environmental and regulatory permitting inspection projects, groundwater monitoring, environmental remediation and site assessments, landfills, and solar development projects. The successful candidate will be eligible for a sign-on and/or relocation bonus.

The job will consist of assisting in the completion of site investigations and assessments, including the collection of soil and groundwater samples to characterize the potential environmental degradation of industrial sites. The candidate will analyze data and compare the site characterization information to environmental standards. The project environmental specialist will assist in the development of plans and specifications for permitting industrial and power generation sites and will assist in the development of construction documents for the work and may assist in the construction monitoring activities required for the construction quality assurance of the work. Other projects include the closure and operational support for Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) Landfills and Impoundments, coal pile/pad closure, and groundwater and soil remediation projects for various industrial facilities. In addition, the candidate may assist in the preparation of site grading plans, stormwater management design, erosion and sedimentation control plans, floodplain management, and various permitting for stream activities, construction stormwater, NPDES, and solid waste facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Soil/Water Sampling
  • Soil/Water Testing
  • Site grading and earthwork design
  • Inspections of CCR Landfills and Impoundments
  • Support of regulatory compliance requirements including Federal CCR Rule
  • Data Management and Analysis
  • Hydrologic and Hydraulic Analyses
  • Stormwater management plans
  • Erosion and Sedimentation Control layout and calculations
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering drawings and specifications
  • Assist with Permitting duties for stream activities and construction stormwater
  • Assist with Solid Waste Permitting and design
  • Inspection of Geosynthetic Liner Systems
  • Phase 1 and 2 Environmental Site Assessments
  • Construction QA/QC and other engineering field investigations

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science is required.
  • This position requires occasional travel to project sites to perform site investigations and monitoring. Typically, travel will be local but may require occasional overnight stays. Anticipate travel will be required approximately 3-10 days per month, but may vary depending on project needs.
