About the Role:

The Sr. Director Supply Chain Optimization has responsibility for optimizing the HUSA end-2-end supply chain from brewery to shelf, leveraging key optimization tools and methodologies, including network optimization, data science & AI, and TPM (Total Productive Management) continuous improvement. The role covers a wide geographical scope from breweries in Europe and Mexico, international ocean and road freight, 9 warehouses and 500+ customers across the country. From a functional perspective, the role aims at optimizing product availability on shelf, end-2-end cost to serve, minimizing waste, and reducing carbon emissions. The role is a custodian of the overall supply chain strategy, supply chain budget and monthly delivery vs. the budget, and therefore a key partner for our Chief Operations Officer.

The Optimization team consists of optimization managers, experts in data science, supply chain digitization, sustainability, and TPM continuous improvement. The role is part of the HUSA Operations Leadership Team and works collaboratively with key business partners to ensure effective supply chain management, working with Commercial, Finance and other Operations functions to identify and meet requirements at a strategic and executional level. The role also works closely with other Heineken Global partners to ensure effective end-to-end supply chain management. Externally the role engages with other key stakeholders necessary to perform and deliver the requirements of the role.


Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage direct reports, enabling an environment for high performance

  • Define team structure, role definition and talent development (including recruitment and succession planning)
  • Set team objectives and ensure delivery by providing day to day guidance to direct reports.
  • Ensure ongoing development of team against relevant competencies and business needs
  • Deliver formal and informal feedback throughout the year to ensure effective performance management
  • Develop and implement a team that demonstrates the Heineken Behaviors including ‘safety first’ as a priority

Supply Chain Strategy Definition

  • Define both short-term and long-term strategic planning to enable supply chain optimization (aligned with business strategy)
  • Identify and develop alternate route-to-market solutions which create efficiencies, mitigate risk, enhance customer value, and improve sustainability
  • Evaluate the end-to-end distribution footprint and implement agreed optimization initiatives

Supply Chain Optimization and Improvement

  • Evolve HUSA Operations Command Center, which is a central Power BI hub covering analytics, trigger points, and key performance metrics covering the full end-2-end supply chain, transitioning into predictive modeling using data science and robotics
  • Undertake analytics (scenario planning, modelling, ‘what if’ etc.) to ensure the effective management of supply chain flows
  • Identify opportunities for supply chain improvement and work with all relevant parties to develop a relevant business case including cost savings, service improvements, complexity reductions etc.
  • Develop a Total Cost Management (TCM) enterprise, identifying and implementing agreed opportunities for cost optimization
  • Implement and embed Continuous Improvement (TPM) methodology and culture across the full Operations Department, following the Heineken Global TPM certification program

Vendor Management Strategy

  • Develop a strategic approach to vendor management defining the right solutions for the business through an external network
  • Oversee procurement strategy with external vendors, including ocean carriers, transportation and warehouse providers and any other vendors necessary to ensure effective supply chain operations
  • Collaborate with other Operations stakeholders to develop the optimum solution to enable effective execution of logistics activities balancing cost, service, and inventory

Capacity and Capability Planning

  • Define capacity and capability requirements for the logistics network building relevant insights from various stakeholders
  • Model the impact of potential internal or external changes on the supply chain (Distributor, State, Volume, Logistics etc.)
  • Recommend relevant initiatives to improve capacity and mitigate any supply chain risk
  • Ensure a cyclical planning cycle to manage the selling calendar and ensure appropriate capacity and capability is in place

Supply Chain Financial Management

  • Oversee the supply chain budgeting and reporting cycle including the structuring, analysis, and monitoring of all relevant logistics cost activities
  • Provide input into financial planning and support the budget, latest estimate and monthly reporting cycle ensuring appropriate control and governance of all logistics costs activities
  • Participate in vendor negotiation management for all external relationships ensuring value creation for the business. Collaboratively set negotiation strategy with Global Purchasing and define vendor allocation based on best overall risk / value proposition for HUSA

Performance Management

  • Define relevant KPI’s and success factors for logistics in conjunction with other stakeholders
  • Agree to performance targets to stretch the business, balancing inventory, cost and service to deliver sustained value and Implement actions that will ensure achievement of performance metrics
  • Provide a comprehensive and clear KPI reporting suite demonstrating performance levels and insights
  • Implement a ‘review and resolve’ cycle to address any areas of sub-optimal performance, ensuring corrective action
  • Create an environment of performance excellence within the Supply Chain Team
  • Drive Total Productive Management (TPM) approach to identifying and eliminating loss and waste within supply chain planning, using relevant and appropriate business tools to drive improvements

Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure clarity and compliance of all obligations including Heineken policy, legal, statutory, FDA, etc

Basic Qualifications/Requirements:

  • 10+ years’ experience in senior level Operations / Supply Chain roles CPG Industry
  • Extensive relevant experience within supply chain modelling, optimization, and data science
  • Experience leading and motivating a high-performing Team
  • Strong supply chain analytical and modelling capability
  • Strong experience in Continuous Improvement (TPM/Lean/SixSigma) and change management
  • Financial budget planning, analysis, and reporting skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Educated to Degree Level (Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business, Finance or other relevant subject)
  • Experience within the CPG Industry
