Position Summary
The Senior Director of Data Management leads the technical team of ODS to integrate data across the College that serve our community, students and employees by creating a data-driven culture through highly available, secure, easily maintainable, and clearly defined information. The Senior Director defines and implements best practices for data integrity, data security, data integration, data architecture, Business Intelligence visualization software, and data warehouse management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervises technical ODS staff in the Office of Data Strategies, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; ensuring staff is trained and follows policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
- Creates and maintains data architecture to ensure the data needs of the college are met and in close partnership with ITS
- In conjunction with the Chief Data Officer (CDO) maintains provides a technical roadmap for managing CNM data assets and with considerations made for the future strategy of the Collaborative for Higher Education Shared Services (CHESS)
- Partners with the CDO and Sr. Director of Data Strategy and Data Science to create and manage the tools needed for the implementation of the college’s developing data strategy focused on increasing the value of the college’s data to achieve its strategic goals while minimizing data-related risks
- Leads the deployment of the college’s data management platform and the development of a data dictionary and reporting tables, and a data warehouse, collaborating with data stewards and users to ensure the products are timely, accurate, and valuable.
- Ensures that data relevant to college needs is available, reliable, consistent, accessible, and secure.
- Directs data management activities, including documentation of data lineage and definitions, developing processes for ensuring data integrity and quality, and appropriate data integration and warehousing
- Partners with ITS on system architecture related to the college's data storage and security

- Manages the administration of the data dictionary.
- Improves data quality through defined data governance, data management, and focused data quality remediation programs.
- Provides an expert-level understanding of SQL and data management best practices for the entire college
- Serves on college committees, representing data management concerns, including assessing the impact of new systems and initiatives on data integrity.
- Reviews functional requirements and designs. Ensure that plans are architecturally compliant, correspond to the best data warehouse practices, and represent the best solution for the business need.
- Provides oversight and direction to the team to establish development processes and standards that ensure the development team achieves objectives and milestones on time and within budget.
- Collaborates and guides the Project Manager in developing project plans by providing tasks and estimates. Collaborates with Project Manager in creating high-quality deliverables on a timely basis. Applies a strong aptitude for iterative functionality-driven software development, preferably Agile software principles.
- Works with industry vendors, consultants, and partners to understand data warehousing & business intelligence technology trends, identifying new technology developments and technologies that may be useful.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimums
- Master’s Degree in technical degree requiring math and/or science and five (5) years of experience managing large data projects as a technical lead.
- OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in technical degree requiring math and/or science (10) years of experience managing large data projects as a technical lead.
- OR
- Associates Degree in technical degree requiring math and/or science (15) years of experience managing large data projects as a technical lead
