The Position
Relocation benefits are available for this job posting
NOTE: All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply and will be considered. Our talent development strategy and processes have, however, pre-identified a potential candidate for this position.
The Microchemistry, Proteomics, Lipidomics (MPL) and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Department is seeking a curiosity-driven Scientist 3 with a background in analytical chemistry, microfluidics, biochemistry, mass spectrometry, and/or proteomics. The successful candidate will develop cutting-edge single cell and spatial proteomics tools and instrumentations, and work with collaborators across therapeutic areas to drive discovery and technology development efforts at Genentech.
In this role the candidate will contribute to the development of novel methods and devices for single cell and spatial proteomics, sample preparation, high throughput liquid chromatography, MS acquisition, and novel data analysis approaches. Once developed this candidate will apply these single cell and spatial proteomics technologies to collaborations aimed at understanding biological mechanisms that are important in therapeutic development. As part of their responsibilities, the candidate will present data to collaborators, write scientific manuscripts, and attend relevant scientific conferences.
Advances in mass spectrometry proteomics and associated areas have revolutionized the study of cellular proteins and motivated in depth molecular characterization of normal human physiology and disease biology. The MPL group is a world leader in the application of technologies, including mass spectrometry and plate-based proteomic methods, to elucidate new models of the molecular mechanisms of disease and the development of novel therapeutics. As is true across Genentech, research in MPL is fast paced and highly collaborative, drawing on the expertise of some of the world's leading experts in biochemistry, technology, computational biology and disease.
Who You Are
You have a PhD in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry, Proteomics, or other relevant field, or a Masters degree with 4+ years of experience
You have hands-on experience with sample preparation for bottom-up proteomics workflows
You have experience in fabrication of microdevices or assembling/controlling automatic analytical systems
You are interested in developing and troubleshooting new methods for proteomics sample preparation, data acquisition and analysis
You have experience or are interested in gaining experience with handling liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry systems (Thermo Fisher, Bruker)
You have a record of publications in high-quality peer reviewed journals that demonstrate expertise and knowledge in your field
You may have data analysis experience (R and/or Python)
You are able to analyze, summarize and present data from your research
You are curious about emerging technologies
You have strong communication and interpersonal skills
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $94,360 to $175,240. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
