SHIFT: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
HOURLY RATE: $22.00- $25.00. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a technician to join our Sample Processing team at our Safety Assessment site located in Stilwell, Kansas. This site is the first of its kind, bridging CRL’s Discovery and Safety Assessment business units, while bringing automation to standard lead optimization toxicology study models to deliver rapid study results to our clients. The Sample Processing Technician will be assigned to work on studies, performing and becoming more efficient in skills as required. Daily activities include biological sample management duties such as sample labeling, delivery, aliquoting, processing, and verification; cleaning of lab and equipment; and performing and reviewing study ordered parameters and computer input of raw data. The Technician may also perform shipping and receiving activities.
- Sample pick up and delivery from/to the vivarium and supporting labs
- Aliquoting with disposable and mechanical pipette
- Sample storage (cooler) preparedness and delivery
- Operate general lab equipment (i.e. Centrifuge, pipettes) used in the processing of biological samples
- Cleaning – Centrifuges, Counters, laboratory equipment, etc.
- Labeling of standard nuncs and blood tubes
- Receive, process, track, and store samples received into the laboratory
- Observe and assist with technical/study related duties with guidance
- Generate, update, and maintain data for department activities
- Ship samples to external sites/locations and receive samples into the Site – tracking shipping information
- Assist with training for less experienced staff
- Familiarity with business continuity procedures when systems go down or are temporarily unavailable
- Independent weekend and call-in capability
- Perform all other related duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) required.
- Experience: 0.5 year of relevant experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Certification/Licensure: None, unless required by local government.
- Skill plan completed for this role based on department training plan.
- Demonstrated ability to consistently and effectively produce high quality results, interpret protocol requirements, troubleshoot quality issues, and record accurate study and departmental data.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.
- Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), commensurate with essential functions
- Fine motor skills and hand dexterity to processing micro/mini- samples, which may require quality eyesight or corrective lenses.
- Ability to ensure that a safe working environment is maintained by observing all safety procedures and working methods by making proper use of protective clothing and equipment, and by reading, understanding, and following all safety documents issued or notified of.
- Ability to ensure the integrity of the studies and fulfill the regulatory agencies requirements by performing the activities according to the Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Business Operating Procedures (BOP) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules.
- Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.
- Ability to work under specific time constraints.
