Big-D Construction has an opportunity for an Safety Director to join our growing team in Tempe, AZ. This role is responsible for providing safety and risk technical expertise to Big-D personnel, vendors, and subcontractors on one jobsite. Develops, establishes, and monitors Big-D’s Safety Program, which closely tracks safety, health, and environmental conditions at the construction site.

HSE Training

• Conduct weekly NHO Orientations and/or coordinate an instructor
• Review current training material for accuracy and content
• Review and track assigned training to all employees and follow up on overdue employees
• Develop new training material for new standards and initiatives
• Create new training content and delivery methods including video, power point, tool box talks, etc.
• Develop weekly toolbox talks and send out monthly
• Develop yearly safety training calendar
• Develop trainer courses and conduct training for our field trainers
• Coordinate, manage, and track training opportunities for all HSE team members
• Coordinate, manage and track HSE certification opportunities for all HSE team members
• Develop training that is centered on emotional intelligence
• Develop training in conjunction with operations for employee development and advancement
• Provide training to subcontractors as requested. Training to include fall protection, TH!NK, silica, excavations, etc.

OSHA

• Participate in site visits / inspections from OSHA
• Coordinate OSHA visits and training as needed
• Complete Mobile VPP application and coordinate the required visits and inspections during the process
• Manage the Mobile VPP once we are approved

Incident Management

• Respond to any incident as needed
• Complete accident investigations and root cause analysis
• Follow up and track reports for accidents/incidents on projects in my area of responsibility
• Train supervision and management on incident management policies and procedures
• Take an active role in medical clinic visits, follow up care, rehabilitation, etc.

Field

• Conduct safety audits on projects within my area of responsibility
• Train superintendents on safety management
• Train superintendents on pre-installation meetings, coordination meetings, safety committee meetings and the safety benefits received when these are done on a regular basis
• Conduct on the spot training in the field as needed
• Develop a relationship with the project teams so they are more receptive and an active participant in the safety of their site
• Develop relationships with the craft workers so they are comfortable approaching me about safety concerns
• Assist in job set up with the ordering of OSHA posters, first aid kits, PPE, etc.

Corporate

• Review and approve payroll deduct forms and reimbursement forms for safety equipment / PPE
• Review and approve invoices that use the corporate cost code
• Participate and lead as needed Executive Safety Subcommittees
• Maintain and order PPE including safety glasses, gloves and hard hats for HR as needed
• Coordinate with Industrial Supply for Big-D hard hat transfers as needed
• Manage inventory of TH!NK and Hot Work Permit forms
• Develop and manage the monthly safety theme poster campaign
• Participate and lead as needed the weekly corporate HSE staff meeting
• Participate and lead as needed the monthly HSE staff meeting
• Actively participate in the strategic planning of personnel and management of jobs
• Review safety submittals from projects as needed
• Review and update Big-D’s current IIPP yearly
• Represent Big-D on the ABC Safety Committee
• Represent Big-D in the ASSP Organization
• Participate in the review and creation of the yearly calendar
• Work with Directors to assess needs and help create plans to address those needs
• Participate in workers comp reviews
• Participate in insurance walks and site audits
• Manage dedicated site safety personnel
• Participate in the monthly operations meeting including presenting the assigned safety topic and finding safety share participants
