Summary Description of Classification - The Safety and Security Manager has management responsibilities for the administration of District student and employee safety programs. The Safety and Security Manager leads the investigation of major cases designated by Campus Police and School District Senior Administration.
Minimum Qualification Standards
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
2. Leads the District’s law enforcement investigation for major cases designated by Campus Police and the School District Senior Administration.
3. Coordinates security at the School District Central Office.
4. Manages the school district’s Navigate 360 Emergency Management Suite.
5. Ensures that school district threats are assigned to the appropriate school or department teams and addressed by those teams.
6. Ensures the completion of the threat assessment process by school/department threat assessment teams.
7. Develops the school site-based safety plan template in Navigate 360 and coordinating the completion and approval of these plans on an annual basis.
8. Ensures compliance with state law and school district regulations for school safety drills including fire drills, severe weather drills, and lockdown drills.
9. Manages the District’s Mindset Student Behavior Management Program.
10. Develops and enforces the school district’s random searches program that includes random searches during the morning arrival process, random classroom searches and random canine searches.
11. Inspects all District playgrounds and coordinates efforts to address all identified deficiencies.
12. Identifies and updates the list of school district’s strike team members that conduct damage assessments of school district facilities and grounds in the aftermath of natural and man-made disasters. Coordinates the training for strike team members.
13. Ensures all District departments are utilizing the Vector Solutions employee safety training platform.
14. Coordinates the Safe Routes to School Program in all schools.
15. Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
1. Applicant must possess a working knowledge of Georgia Criminal Procedures, Georgia Traffic Code, Georgia Juvenile Law, Court Proceedings and Macon-Bibb County Ordinances.
2. Applicant must demonstrate a working knowledge of Bibb County Schools’ policies and procedures and proven experience working with youth and culturally diverse groups.
3. Applicant must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, including extensive communications (verbal and written) experience with students, staff, and internal/external stakeholders.
4. Applicant must have required technical proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, and other software and hardware such as, fax, copiers, and scanners.
5. Applicant must demonstrate the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities and the ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues.
6. Applicant must demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with District personnel, District Local Government Partners, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people.
Education, Training and Experience:
1. Minimum of bachelor’s degree – in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or related field
2. Current Georgia POST Law Enforcement Certification
Physical Demands: Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Work beyond a 40-hour week and attendance at evening and weekend meetings as required. Ability to respond to school or department requirements at any time.
