The Resident Assistant is responsible for maintaining the overall management and maintenance of the residence and supporting the staff of Portis Family Home family sober living program by providing quality services to clients. The Resident Assistant reports to and is supervised by the Shelter Manager or designee for weekly supervision and programmatic assignments.
Typical responsibilities include:
  • Act in accordance with Victory Programs Standards of Excellence & Philosophy Care, including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries and client confidentiality and working from a strength based perspective.
  • Ensure the residence is maintained in a state of good repair, orderliness and is free from hazards.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures related to maintaining a safe and appropriate residential environment are being met.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures of the residence are being followed.
  • Assure that fire safety standards are met at all times (e.g. post fire escape routes on each floor with clearly marked exits, ensure that fire escape routes are free from obstacles, ensuring that outside fire escapes are clear and are in good repair, operate monthly fire drills for residents).
  • Assists with the orientation and oversight of weekly volunteers (PAL’s).
  • Assist Shelter Manager with inventory and maintenance of food and household supplies.
  • Provide assistance with daily office and administrative functions (e.g. filing, phone coverage & reception).
  • Assist in maintaining daily house records, including the set up and use of the daily house log.
  • Maintain and review all charts and documentation as necessary for the delivery of services at Portis Family Home as directed.
  • Assist with the management of linen supplies, including inventory, collection, distribution, and laundering as directed.
  • Communicate to the other house management staff any information specific to the management and maintenance of the facility that occurs during the shift.
  • Work collaboratively with all Portis Family Home staff to provide family centered services to children and their parents.
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  • Attend staff in-service training as requested by the Program Director.
  • Attend weekly supervision and staff meetings as directed.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with families with children.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team.
  • Ability to relate to residents in an instructive, directive, firm yet compassionate manner.
  • Knowledge of the addiction recovery process, or a willingness to acquire it within the first six months of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multi-cultural settings with diverse client groups.
  • Proficient computer skills including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational, writing and communication skills.
  • Current TB assessment and current CPR certification.

Hours & Schedule: Part time (16hours/week): Saturday & Sunday 12am-8am
Rate: $20.19/hour

The program can accommodate up to eight families who are addressing substance use disorders. The program provides intensive housing and vocational case management and recovery support services as the resident families transition to more independent and permanent housing settings.
