A research specialist opening is immediately available in the Hope Clinic Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit Research Laboratory led by Dr. Erin Scherer in the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. The goal of our laboratory is to understand the human immune response to vaccines, infections, and therapeutics. This position will directly support ongoing tissue immunology research efforts in those key areas. We are looking for a highly motivated, organized, and productive scientists who can perform research and assist with laboratory operation. Specifically, this position will involve: processing human specimens (primary and secondary lymphoid specimens) and conducting virological and/or immunological assays with general supervision; compiling data and results for publication, presentations, or grants; delivering updates/presentations for internal lab meetings; ordering supplies; and assisting with basic lab upkeep. In addition to working with human specimens, it may require working with viruses (risk group 2+), pseudoviruses, and cell lines. Salary will be commiserate with experience. Research experience with primary cells or cell lines, high-throughput assays (i.e., 96-well), and immunology projects is a preferred qualification.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
- Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
- May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
- Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
- Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
- Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
- Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
