Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent degree. Three (3) years of research experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science or related research discipline; includes at least one year of research experience following attainment of a postdoctoral degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics or Computational Biology.
Brief Description of Duties:
This position will support the Bioinformatics Shared Resource in the Stony Brook Cancer Center. This position is integral to providing core services needed for the research enterprise at SBCC. Incumbent will be an experienced Data Scientist or Informatician to perform traditional bioinformatics analysis and data management using state of the art methods in R and/or Python.
Duties include:
- Next generation sequencing (NGS) data processing and statistical analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, DNA-seq, etc)
- Gene set enrichment analysis, pathway analysis, gene-network analysis.
- Integrative analysis of multi-omics (transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, etc) data from public repositories (for example, Human Protein Atlas, TGCA, GTEx, Cytoscape, Cbioportal, DAVID, GSEA, NCBI, BLAST, GEO, GWAS).
- Data submission to NCBI Databases, including cloud storage and computing (e.g., AnVIL Data Storage platform; GEO, etc).
- Prepare grant proposals; apply for grants, to include writing proposals for the research projects, identifying funding sources, and training opportunities.
- Prepare manuscripts for publications in peer reviewed and/or scientific journals. Conduct and teach in Bioinformatics workshops.
- Other duties as needed.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
