HOW YOU WILL DO IT
Purpose Statement:
You will be utilizing your engineering product development experience, your business-savvy and your leadership skills to transform our customers' marketable ideas into manufactural products. Plexus' Project Managers "own the project" and have broad authority and full responsibility for the business and technical success of their projects for products & customers across multiple industries.
Key Job Accountabilities:
- Business Development - Supports the customer development process in winning new business and is directly responsible for developing repeat business with previous and/or current customers.
- Work-sharing Support - Accountable for proactively identifying work packages or opportunities that should be work shared. Works effectively with the Functional Manager to promote inter-design center project staffing model while balancing individual needs of the project, customer, and employee.
- Manages customers’ expectations regarding all aspects of the project. This includes setting expectations for the challenges in developing products and test systems. Expectations shall also be managed regarding project scope, schedule, budget, risks, deliverables, and any changes to the original proposal.
- Manages projects to successful financial execution with the goal of 100% conversion. Utilizes Plexus business systems to accurately project revenue for both active projects and opportunities
- Effectively manages the team resources and leads the program to a successful execution. This includes partnering with the engineering team to identify solutions to meet the customer's needs. It is also important to partner with manufacturing, supply chain, and third party suppliers to ensure Plexus’ design are successfully introduced into Plexus Manufacturing Solutions sites. Responsible for developing future Plexus leaders.
Additional Accountabilities:
- Actively supports a Lean Sigma culture through mentoring employees on Lean Sigma concepts, support of and participation in Lean Sigma activities (including RIEs and Report-outs), and application of the tools (including but not limited to A3, DMAIC, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, etc.).
- Responsible for managing projects that are limited in scope that typically do not involve multiple disciplines, multiple geographies, or challenging customer dynamics. Occasional assistance from the DPM to resolve issues, establish project plans, or provide guidance is expected.
- Coordinates the activity of the project team in order to execute the project from proposal and contract development through manufacturing transition to assure all expectations of the customer are met.
- Responsible for the project P&L, AR, and project sales forecasts including assuring positive and negative variances are appropriately forecasted.
- Responsible for creation and ownership of the project proposal, which includes the project plan, schedule, budget, PSA, assumptions, and for presenting and driving the proposal to closure with the customer.
- Responsible for managing changes in project scope, schedule, unit cost and the contract, and communicating these changes to the customer in a timely manner.
- Facilitate customer and team meetings to ensure schedule, budget and customer expectations are met.
- Responsible for the timely allocation of human resources and equipment required by the project to assure project schedule and financial success.
- Responsible for the selection, and ultimate performance, of third party suppliers and sub-contractors required to execute the project plan.
- Responsible for managing all prototype builds or fabrication efforts required to execute the project plan.
- Serves as the customer’s primary point of contact and manages customer expectations in regards to project team performance, deliverables, and schedule to ensure successful project and customer satisfaction.
- Responsible for providing the customer with written status reports on at least a monthly basis, or as required by the customer, to inform the customer of schedule, budget, and risk issues.
- Responsible for ensuring clear and timely communication of project scope changes prior to performing activities to ensure contractual agreement with the customer.
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of Plexus' standard PSA and NDA as well as customer specific contracts to ensure adherence to project contracts and confidentiality agreements.
- Participate in the new business development process including initial customer meetings, capabilities presentations, technical and business discussions to win new business.
- Provide input on feasibility, cost, schedules, capabilities, resource availability, and contractual obligations for proposal development to ensure competitive estimates to customers.
- Assess priority of new projects with input from directors and functional managers to ensure appropriate staffing, that projects are challenging, and that projects are consistent with Plexus objectives.
- Responsible for working with existing customers to solicit and secure additional work through business development activities and develop additional contacts, both horizontally and vertically within the customer.
- Participates in the creation of opportunity plans during the new business development process to identify strategies required to win the opportunity.
- Work with functional managers and other project managers, with oversight from the DPM and DOE, to assign the project team members in a manner that assures adequate leadership, experience, and technical expertise are provided to all projects.
- Assist functional managers with personnel issues by providing timely feedback regarding team member performance to ensure team members are meeting expectations and are comfortable performing their tasks.
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of Plexus' standard quality policies and procedures as well as customer specific quality requirements to ensure the project complies with all quality requirements and to assure customer satisfaction.
- Instills and reinforces the Plexus culture and fosters positive change as part of daily activities within the project teams.
- Produce an acceptable quantity of work in a timely manner.
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of Plexus' Product Realization Value Stream and has experience and ability to execute parts of it.
- Occasional travel may be required to meet the needs of the business (estimated <25%).
- Additional duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field is required; a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field is preferred.
- Five (5) years of related experience is required; Five (5) or more years of related experience is preferred.
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key job accountabilities may be considered.

Work Environment:
- The work setting should consist of an office environment with suitable lighting, comfortable temperatures, and a low noise level.
