Project Civil Engineer - Stormwater – Lenexa, KS
The Water Environment Group at GBA is looking for an experienced Civil Engineer (5+years) to support their Stormwater projects in the Lenexa, KS office. GBA’s Stormwater Team works with various public and private entities including internal departments to develop the appropriate conveyance systems and/or storage facilities to alleviate flooding and/or decrease pollution associated with Stormwater runoff. Our expertise ranges from analysis, design and permitting, Design Build and Design Bid Build delivery methods to construction services. Our wide range of projects include Water Quality Study and Design, Stormwater Master Planning, Stream and Riverine Site Evaluation, Storm Sewer Study and Design, as well as Municipal Stormwater Review.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the collection of data in the field including but not limited to streams/open channel systems, enclosed (conduit and structures) storm and sanitary sewer systems.
  • Work with various software packages to produce figures, exhibits, and/or drawings under the supervision of Senior Technical or Engineering Staff.
  • Review existing reports and studies for information related to studies and design projects.
  • Prepare written studies and project design technical reports with supervision by senior staff.
  • Prepare calculations, designs and specifications with supervision by senior staff.
  • Create and update hydrologic and hydraulic computer models such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS XP-SWMM, and associated software packages.
  • Oversight of construction observation activities.
Required Education/Experience:
  • BS in Civil, Biosystems and/or Agricultural Engineering or closely related engineering degree
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer, or current progress toward licensure in the State of Kansas and/or Missouri.
  • Possess effective communication skills both written and oral
  • Must be able to work effectively both on a team and individually
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, Excel & GIS Mapping software is a plus
  • Experience with some, or all, of the following: assessment, analysis, planning, design and rehab of Stormwater systems; water quality study and design; and riverine hydraulic modeling.
  • Detail oriented and dedicated to quality work
  • Candidate must be adept at working on fast-paced projects
  • Current driver’s license for use of Company vehicle for travel or site related assignments.
  • Experience in HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, and PCSWMM a plus
Travel:
  • Some occasional local day travel will be required.
  • Some overnight travel may be necessary for this position.
