Job Summary:
Vertex Solutions is looking for a Software Specialist/Programmer to work on a client site at Hurlburt Field, FL (Fort Walton Beach, FL). This individual will serve as a primary computer programmer for the 492nd Special Operations Wing (492 SOW) training tool software support.
Essential Functions:
- Programming:
- Serve as a primary computer programmer for 492 SOW training tool software support
- Develop training applications using object-oriented approaches in C-family or game engine scripting languages (e.g., Unity)
- Write, update, and maintain object-oriented and scripted virtual reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) gaming applications to enhance 492 SOW flying training programs
- Analyze existing code in order to determine underlying functionality
- Write, update, and maintain computer programs or software packages to handle specific jobs within the 492 SOW training website
- Administrative
- Design and load training forms, student questionnaires, and other documents as required
- Consult with management and technical support personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems, and suggest changes
- Perform or staff revision, repair, and expansion of existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt software to new requirements
- Write or contribute to instructions or manuals to guide end users on the use of commercial and Government software and other training website programs as required
- Coordinate 492 SOW updates to various programs ranging from basic internal programs to government owned programs or government utilized program suites
- General
- Scope development work accurately and in-line with time and cost constraints
- Apply quality assurance standards throughout the entire development lifecycle in compliance with company procedures and industry best practices
- Troubleshoot software issues and think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations
- Test and debug own work, and other s work, to reduce time spent in the formal QC process
- Communicate with team and project management in a timely and effective manner

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the core work hours of 0900 - 1600. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel is not anticipated for this position.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Game Design/Development, Real-Time Interactive Simulation Development, or equivalent, or 4 years of specialized work experience in lieu of a degree
- Understanding of object-oriented software design approaches in C-family languages
- Experience programming virtual reality simulations using the Unity game engine
- Understanding of 3D and VR application development including scene building and modification, integration of 3D models, textures, materials, shaders, and sounds
- Strong understanding of the fundamentals of software engineering principles and how to apply them to design and develop robust, efficient, scalable, and maintainable applications
- Strong collaboration and communication skills within distributed project teams
- Ability to obtain a government security clearance required, active clearance a plus
