The combined departments of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business (AEAB) and the Extension Economics (EE) consist of 13 faculty (11-tenured/tenure track) and 4 permanent administrative staff. The Department enrolls approximately 120 undergraduates and 30 graduate students and holds a long and proud history of teaching, research, and extension since its founding in 1925. Department faculty, staff, specialists, and students are the core and foundation of our learning, discovery, and scholarly community. Our faculty and students demonstrate an interest in a range of economic, environmental, social and technological issues that challenge the agribusiness and food sectors, natural resource managers, and rural communities. Central to the Department’s mission, the faculty are dedicated to fostering a learning and teaching environment that values student success and achievement. The department is one of nine departments in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.

New Mexico State University’s Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business Department seeks a professional with vision, energy, and tenacity to provide dynamic leadership. We seek someone with a record of accomplishment of leadership, team building, and first-rate interpersonal communication skills. Administrative experience and strong academic credentials in teaching, research, and service are desired. The Department Head will recruit and mentor students and faculty from diverse cultures, and promote and expand the department’s academic programs to the community, university, industry, grantors, and other stakeholders.

The Department Head is responsible for collaboratively formulating and implementing with the faculty a vision for the department as well as all dimensions of administration. Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Business, or a related field and have compiled a solid record of academic achievement and professional experience consistent with the university’s rank of Full Professor. We seek candidates who understand and value university education, research, and outreach, and have a strong commitment to the land grant mission; demonstrates the capacity to collaborate with the faculty to produce a shared vision for the department’s future; demonstrates initiative of securing needed resources; documented capacity to deliver service to relevant stakeholders. Must be tenured or be tenurable at the rank of professor.
