Product Manager, Mechanical Repair Equipment

Whitewater Brands, a Boise, Idaho based holding company for five unique businesses, is seeking an experienced merchandising professional to join our growing company. This position will be based in our Elgin, IL facility.

Whitewater is owned by a private investment firm that will pursue growth through acquisition.

High Level Description

  • Develop strategies for continual growth in company sales and margins with the addition/deletion of products to the catalog, and web sites based on customer demand patterns
  • Assist Director of Product Management in defining our product assortment across all our brands o Identify opportunities to maintain and expand our companies’ reputation for supplying innovative products to our customers o Identify industry trends and new products to continually upgrade product offering o Work with vendors to create new proprietary products o Encourage input from the sales team, customers, as well as product suppliers o Global sourcing/vendor negotiations
  • Product performance analysis, product specifications, product pricing, contribution analysis and product marketing o Deciding what items should be dropped/added from the catalog, website and marketplaces
  • Assist in the development of supplier relationships and pricing programs. Includes negotiating promotions with the vendors.
  • Assist marketing department on new ideas and the continuous improvement of catalog layouts and internet marketing vehicles.
  • Assist the purchasing team to determine which items are stocked versus drop shipped. Help to decide what items to buy directly from the manufacturers versus a warehouse/distributor. Alert purchasing to promotional buy opportunities with the vendors. Monitor purchases to take advantage of vendor rebate programs.
  • Assist the sales team in approving any variation in pricing for quotes/competitive situations.
  • Slow moving/dead inventory dispositions decisions (sales liquidations, RTV, write‐off)

Required Skills, Experience, and Characteristics

  • Analytical and merchandising skills and interests o Highly proficient in leveraging productivity, analytical and communication tools, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Exceptional Excel and data analytics skills) is an absolute requirement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to successfully organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects on a day‐to‐day basis in a deadline‐ driven environment
  • Familiarity with automated supply chain systems very important – i.e., with purchasing and inventory management within a distribution resource planning or enterprise resource planning environment
  • Three to five years of experience in either merchandising, purchasing, or in a mechanical repair environment.
  • The ideal candidate would have experience buying automotive related hardgoods (i.e., tools and equipment) or industrial products, but we welcome applicants with supply chain experience in any product market
  • Willingness to adapt to change in the interest of continuous improvement
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, supply chain, marketing, or related field is preferred but not necessary.
