Description

The Process Design Engineer contributes by leading and coaching other engineers. Uses technical expertise to achieve operational and project objectives by working to design, implement, control and optimize new and existing processes at Sweeny Refinery. By partnering with internal and external stakeholders, the Process Engineer collaborates to build technically sound strategies around business improvement opportunities, safety enhancements, and sustainability while reducing cost and maximizing profitability.

Responsibilities may include

Interface with multidiscipline teams (operation, safety, environmental, supervision, etc.) to identify problem statements and process goals for small and large projects.

Plan and execute field test for equipment performance verifications.

Evaluating equipment and developing process design improvement opportunities for unit optimization and quality

Cross functionally driving process engineering support for small and large capital projects at all stages (conceptual design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and start-up for projects)

Provide leadership in development of project scope, benchmarking, and control of project design to the approved objectives.

Deliver process specifications, P&ID’s and equipment data sheets for projects

Support post-startup auditing of executed projects.

When required, provides technical advice and support to daily operational issues and to meet short- and long-term operating and business plans of operating unit.

When required, monitors and evaluates unit performance and maintains effective monitoring reports

Required Qualifications

Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering

Currently hold a valid driver’s license

5 or more years of experience in refining, petrochemical or related industry

5 or more years of experience working as a Process Engineer

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering

5 or more years of experience in refining

7 or more years of experience working as a Process Engineer

3 or more years of experience executing projects

Working knowledge of simulation programs such as HTRI, PetroSim, Aspen HYSYS, ProII and/or AspenPlus

The Sweeny Refinery is located in Old Ocean, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, and aromatics units, as well as access to the on-site vacuum tower and delayed coking unit, which is an asset owned by Phillips 66 Partners. Sweeny processes heavy, high-sulfur crude oil and some light, low sulfur crude oil. Domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil is transported by truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, heating oil and petroleum coke. The refinery receives crude oil by pipeline and via tankers, through terminals on the Gulf Coast, including a deepwater terminal at Freeport. Refined products are distributed throughout the Midcontinent region, southeastern and eastern United States by pipeline, barge and rail car. Refined products are also exported to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
