Job description
Overview:
Gray Inc, Lexington KY is looking for a Principal, Business Risk professional.
Responsibilities:
Why Gray?
Gray is a fully integrated, global service provider deeply rooted in engineering, design, construction, smart manufacturing, automation, digital and specialty equipment manufacturing services. Consistently ranked as a leader in the industry, we focus on the following markets for domestic and international customers: Food & Beverage, Manufacturing, Automotive, Distribution, Mission Critical, and Commercial.

Founded in 1960, Gray’s robust offering enables us to create one-of-a-kind solutions at the highest levels of customization, delivering unmatched precision and partnership to some of the world’s most sophisticated organizations. Still, these areas don’t define Gray—our people do. Passion, commitment, and a great team spirit all speak to the team members at Gray.

This is not a traditional internal audit role. However, there are aspects of this role that would be described as internal auditing – in the sense that the role will be responsible for preventing business catastrophes. Our internal end state for this role is “Lessons from our past failures are never forgotten but are learned from and prevented from happening in our future.” We fully expect the right candidate to identify potential risk areas and partner with leadership of Gray Inc. companies to resolve the identified issues with trust and respect.

The role will report to the CEO of Gray Inc. It will be a shared service across multiple Gray companies (12 companies in 4 business segments), which range from construction to digital and manufacturing. All Gray companies hold project management as the central operating philosophy. Although you will report to the CEO, we want you to be the trusted aid to the various company presidents – They are your team 1.

The person in this role will have latitude in determining the direction and mechanics of the function; we are focused on a clear outcome – any financial catastrophe and business risks are identified, communicated, and prevented from happening through corrective action. We envision the role to involve the following activities:
  • You will be expected to learn each business, its financials and operations. Essentially understand how each company ticks.
  • Be able to compare current financial statements to projections and identify risk.
  • Dive with trust into project-level details and understand how the company is operating. Seek to anticipate future pitfalls by comparing project and company performance to company projections (sales and fiscal).
  • Produce reports outlining findings, including areas of concern, improvement, and best practices learned. This report will be communicated and shared transparently with various stakeholders.
  • In case of potential issues, advise, support, counsel, and partner with the company president in developing a corrective action plan.
  • Conduct regular progress check-ins to ensure the successful implementation of the corrective action plan.
  • Partner closely with an audit firm during external, other customers, and statutory audits.
  • Gain knowledge of each of the Gray, Inc companies to become a trusted partner to the leaders. Have a pulse on what risks lay across the business and keep Gray Inc. CEO aware.
  • Live and communicate the Gray Inc. Constitution (Values, Purpose, Vision, and Guiding Principles)

Qualifications:
Must Have
  • Seven years of relevant experience in audit or consulting roles
  • Knowledge and experience in project management, project controls, corporate finance, and accounting.
  • BS in business, finance, accounting, or a related field

Nice to Have
  • MBA
  • CPA or CIA certification
  • Internal audit experience
  • Experience in consulting or public accounting/audit firm
  • Experience in construction, engineering, architecture, or professional services firm

Skills:
  • Proven analytical skillset.
  • Has great interpersonal, social and relationship building skills. Enjoys after 5 PM camaraderie.
  • Be Curious.
  • Have a bias towards action.

We are looking for a team member with high aptitude and low ego. Somebody energetic, self-motivated, who enjoys a team environment, as well as a passion for collaboration and professional development. If you are a high achiever striving to exceed expectations in a fast-paced, innovative company, then Gray is the place for you.
