The RoleModerna is seeking a Principal Engineer, Building Monitoring and Control Systems, to lead, define, and deliver building automation and equipment monitoring strategy across the Moderna manufacturing network, and drive the technical vision and deployment across greenfield and existing manufacturing facilities. This role will be a hands-on leader actively involved in project design and delivery. The Principal Engineer will collaborate with peers across site, departments and/or cross-functional teams to ensure completion of projects.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Serve as building monitoring and control systems subject matter expert for the strategic direction of solution architecture on projects.
Assume primary internal responsibility for the successful implementation of all BMS projects.
Manage a team of external service providers to develop and configure BMS.
Partner with business owners across the organization to identify and define current and future business needs to support of an overall global business strategy.
Ensure consistency in configuration and application solutions across global entities.
Create technical design documents in and around BMS, as well as supported integrations.
Partner with third party vendors to troubleshoot functional configuration issues to provide support for issue resolution.
Act as trusted advisor, helping the business make better, informed decisions by presenting relevant solution alternatives for key challenges; evaluate business and system impact of proposed changes.
Prioritize enhancement requests, in support of corporate objectives, and make recommendations on timing, costs, implementation and design.
Identify and recommend emerging relevant technologies that may result in improvements to current processes and systems.
Execute standard change management practices including impact analysis, testing, execution, and documentation.
Develop documentation that effectively feeds training activities on the design, application functions, configuration, and use of supported systems.
Develop, update, and review relevant SOPs and working instructions.
Ensure solutions comply with corporate technology standards and security policies
Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical degree
8+ years of technical experience with Building Management/Automation Systems (Delta Controls, Siemens, Johnson Controls, etc.)
2+ years of experience in installation and programming of Building Management/Automation Systems in large, technically complex facilities
Functional knowledge of HVAC, boilers, chillers, electrical, lighting, and plumbing controls
Functional knowledge of energy management systems and controls
Experience with smart buildings technology, software, hardware, and network integrations
Experience reading electrical and mechanical drawings
Experience working with process control and automation systems (Emerson, Siemens, Rockwell)
Experience with cGMP and manufacturing operations and practices
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience in Java and SQL
Experience with OSI PI Data Historian
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work collaboratively within a team of cross functional stakeholders to influence decisions at every level of the organization
Self-directed with effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to drive results on multiple complex assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Computer programming and debugging skills with specific emphasis on IEC 61131-3 programming languages (Sequential Function Charts – SFC, Ladder DIagram, Function Block Diagram – FBD, Structured Text – ST, Instruction List – IL)
