City of Deer Lodge Police Officer Position
The City of Deer Lodge is currently accepting applications for a full-time Police Officer.

The duties of a Police Officer include, but not limited to; protection of life, property, maintaining law and order, enforcing laws, conducting investigations of crimes, arresting violators, testifying in court, keep accurate and detailed records. Officers keep a good relationship with community members and businesses in The City of Deer Lodge. This job also requires your involvement in continued education throughout your career.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizen with the minimum age of at least 18 years
Have a good driving record
Possess or able to possess a Montana driver’s license
be in good physical condition (must pass the Montana Physical Abilities Test)
Be of good moral character
Possess a Montana P.O.S.T. certification or be able to obtain one within twelve (12) months of hire
High School Diploma or recognized equivalent
Must have the ability to legally possess a firearm
Have no felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to write reports and testify in court
Be able to deescalate hostile and or volatile situations
Be able to handle stressful situations
Able to work nights, weekends and holidays
Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
And the ability to perform essential functions of this position
NOTE:
Employment is conditional on passing a criminal background check, physical/drug screen, MPAT, one-year probationary period, and obtaining a Montana P.O.S.T Certification. This career opportunity requires a high level of problem-solving ability, self-initiative and the ability and willingness to work a majority of the time without direction or supervision.
SALARY:
Starting wage without Montana P.O.S.T. certification is $20.55 and will increase to $21.55 after Montana P.O.S.T. certification is obtained. The City of Deer Lodge Police Department offers medical benefits, vacation, sick time, holiday pay, and a 20-year retirement. The Deer Lodge Police Department salary and contract negotiations for upcoming contract will begin in the spring of 2023. Deer Lodge Police Officers belong to The Teamsters Union, America’s largest union.
