Must have a passenger endorsement CDL licensure.
About the position:
Performs work in the operation of a vehicle to assure safe transportation of clients to and from various destinations and to assist clients on entry and exit from vehicles as necessary.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
This position is supervised by the Resident Transportation Coordinator or his/her designee. Ultimate direction is provided by the Activities Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
- Drives a van or bus over a scheduled route to transport individuals to and from senior services, human services organizations, educational institutions, medical facilities, grocery stores, drug stores, and other desired locations.
- Maintains a variety of records, such as time at each stop, purpose of trip, number of passengers per day, mileage, and vehicle maintenance.
- Independent judgment must be exercised in handling unusual situations arising with passengers. Employees receive direction and route assignments from the Administrative Coordinator.
Education: Must have the ability to read, write and speak English. Must maintain current, valid Ohio CDL Driver’s License. Must understand verbal and written instructions. High school graduate preferred. Must successfully complete facility driving course and be approved by Liability Insurance carrier for driving.
Experience: Experience with the aged population preferred.
Complexity: Should possess good judgment. Must be observant and capable of reporting resident status.
Contact Others: Responsible for assigned work and for providing assistance to other staff as required. Maintains direct contact with residents, physicians, and other staff personnel. Must be courteous, friendly and helpful and be able to function in a team environment with a hospitality approach to interpersonal communication.
Confidentiality: Works with confidential data whose disclosure would be contrary to the best interests of the residents and professional ethics. Actively promotes resident confidentiality and rights.
Sensory
Demands: Must have adequate hearing. Flow of work demands visual acuity, and employee must have the ability to handle simultaneous tasks in a fast paced environment. Must be able to identify potential hazards, comprehend consequences and determine actions.
Physical
Demands: Moderate to heavy physical effort required during part of the work shift. Must be capable of bending, squatting and lifting heavy residents. Must be capable of pushing resident in wheelchairs (approximately 250 lbs.). Procedures for lifting and transferring residents must be followed exactly to prevent injury to the resident and/or employee.
Safety: Considerable responsibility for safety of others, including residents and staff members. The possibility of causing an injury to others is considerable. Regular ability to understand and to follow policy and procedures of driver program, safety rules and regulations and department rules.
Working
Conditions: May be exposed to infection, odors and to peculiarities in behavior and reactions of the aged. Sits, stands and walks intermittently during the work day. May lift residents in and out of wheelchairs. Assists with emergencies.
Travel: Position requires travel, while driving bus, van, or automobile up to several hundred miles.
Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
