About the Job:
Under the supervision of the Ordinance Manager, the Ordinance Research Coordinator conducts legal research on various legal sources and maintains files in a manner that meets the identified needs of the FCP Community in accordance with the Ordinance Process, and Tribal Constitution.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Research and analyze statutes, ordinance, codes, relevant court decisions, tribal resolutions, polices, and other legal sources as necessary.
- Assemble related material in conjunction with the requestor and/or the affected department, as necessary.
- Review, proof, and track versions/revisions of all ordinance drafts.
- Provide assistance in creating and organizing department files.
- Attend Executive Council meetings, departmental meetings, General Council meetings, and public informational hearings as required.
Here’s what you’ll need to be successful:
- Must be a member of the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate’s degree in English or legal studies preferred
- Capability of data gathering, organizing information, preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports
- Experience drafting statutes, ordinances and codes, policy, procedures, rules or regulations preferred.
- Knowledge of Tribal sovereignty, Tribal government, FCPC laws, Tribal customs, and traditions preferred
- Experience with ordinance development or legislative government, Federal, State, and Tribal law research preferred
- Must have a valid, clean driver’s license
- Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens
