Operations Service Technician

Chelmsford Water District

The Chelmsford Water District (District) is looking to fill the entry level position of Operations Service Technician. The Operations Service Technician is a permanent full-time position and will work Monday through Friday and weekends on a rotating basis. This is a 40 hour per week position, with scheduled overtime and emergency call in. The wages will be commensurate with experience. The Operations Service Technician will be responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining, operating, or otherwise ensure the safe and efficient production and distribution of drinking water and fire protection. Position will also assist with meter reading operations as needed and once licensed, backflow testing.

The desirable candidate will have the following characteristics:

1) High School diploma or equivalent.

2) Minimum of a two (2) year trade/vocational school as a mechanic, environmental science, engineering, electrician, plumbing, or equivalent certificate.

3) Experience in drinking water industry construction and operation, but willing to train the right individual.

4) Retain a valid driver’s license.

5) Retain the following licenses, or ability to obtain within 12 to 18 months:

a. Distribution License (D1).

b. OSHA-10 hour in Construction Safety and Health and Hot works certificate.

6) Licenses or characteristics which are considered a plus:

a. Distribution D2 or D3 or higher.

b. CDL endorsement with air brakes (Class B).

c. Valid hoisting license for operating an excavator (2A) or backhoe (2B) and similar license for forklift (1C).

d. Preferred 30-minute or less drive of the District water department office.

e. Backflow testing and survey license.

f. The desired person would have experience with diesel engines and hydraulic equipment or auto mechanic willing to learn diesel engines and hydraulics.

7) Proficiency with the following software:

a. Basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or similar).

8) Retains the oral and written communication skills necessary to complete receiving reports, work orders, and/or prepare reports.

9) Be proficient in speaking and writing the English language.

10) Physically able to perform construction tasks in the field.
