Physical Demands
- Moving tables, boxes, chairs, equipment, and furniture during summer conference operations and high peak times of residence hall opening/closing.
- The Neighborhood Coordinator is a live-on position required to sleep in the buildings when on duty. Additionally, Neighborhood Coordinators are required to have a visible presence during business hours; some weekends and nights are required.

Responsibilities include community and leadership development; enforcement of community and university standards; academic initiatives and retention; staff supervision, selection, training and development; facility management, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities include community and leadership development; enforcement of community and university standards; academic initiatives and retention; staff supervision, selection, training and development; facility management, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Daily administrative operations: Provide daily oversight, direction, and guidance for occupancy, records management, policy/procedural questions, front desk operations, customer service, student referrals, billing, parental concerns, recruitment initiatives, and summer conferences. (20%) – Essential Function.
- Supervision: Provide daily oversight, direction, and guidance to student, graduate, and professional staff through weekly 1:1s, staff meetings, check ins, and general availability. Carryout ongoing training and development for staff including diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the department and the greater campus community. (35%) – Essential Function.
- Committee/Work Groups: Chair and/or participate in departmental, divisional, and/or university committees/workgroups. (25%) – Essential Function.
- Facility, safety and security: Identify, notify, and monitor facility-related maintenance, custodial, safety, security and grounds issues. In conjunction with University Police and Environmental Health and Safety conduct fire and safety drills and assessment. (5%) – Essential Function.
- Conduct/SOS : Maintain hours processing, scheduling, and adjudicating conduct cases, tracking sanctions, and reaching out to students of concern regarding their well being.(5%) – Essential Function.
- Emergency and Crisis Response: Respond, evaluate, notify and direct staff in response to student crisis and life/safety emergencies for all residence halls. Provide initial, on-sight response, direction and supervision pending arrival of police, fire and medical support. (10%) – Essential Function
This position is exempt from overtime pay.
The maximum amount of time one can hold a Neighborhood Coordinator position is five
years. Exceptions may apply at the discretion of the Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- At least one year of professional experience in Higher Education and Residence Life or related field. (Two years of graduate assistantship work is equivalent to one year of professional experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field
- 2 years of direct experience in Housing and Residence Life
- Experience with staff supervision and development
- Experience with community development, Residential Curriculum and/or utilizing
a Learning Outcome approach to the work - Experience upholding university policies via adjudicating and managing student
conduct cases - Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships and programs
- Demonstrated ability to manage on-call responsibilities and crisis response
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion

Salary and Benefits
Salary is $53,000. Benefits available include health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement plans. Dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.
