Job Description:
L3Harris Space Systems is seeking a Scientist, Mission Architect to support the Imaging Systems division. The Mission Architect is responsible for development of innovative space mission architectures to meet customer needs on Imaging Systems pursuits and programs. The position requires a combination of engineering and business acumen to craft advanced solutions to complex problems and support capture of funding for these solutions.
Essential Functions:
- Fully understand customer mission gaps, constraints and objectives, and map L3Harris capabilities to customer needs
- Utilize knowledge of customer missions and mission gaps to rapidly develop compelling electro-optical mission solutions for the national defense market
- Leverage capabilities across L3Harris enterprise to offer differentiated mission solutions; must be able to work with a “blank slate” and develop mission concepts and requirements to address top-level customer data needs rather than respond to pre-defined mission or system requirements; must be able to design solutions to meet customer budget and schedule constraints
- Mission and system modeling and simulation to support concept development
- Leverage new technology to establish differentiators that produce impact on business area results
- Influence both internal leadership and external customers through clear, concise and powerful communication
- Create solutions within a matrix environment through collaboration
- Work within a highly dynamic and changing environment and adapt to shifting customer priorities
- Responsible for communicating with senior engineering leaders in the industry and inside the company to build strategic partnerships and influence new and emerging concepts, standards and practices.
- Effectively communicating with all internal and external stakeholders to include senior, executive, and customer management.
- Foster cross-business area / segment collaboration.
- Work in a highly dynamic and changing environment and adapt to shifting customer priorities.
- Ability to develop broad, cooperative relationships with numerous groups and individuals, even when having no direct authority over them.
- Take on special assignment as needed to ensure business success.
Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior program management experience, or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- Technical knowledge: orbital mechanics, space environments and spacecraft interactions, familiarity with launch and navigation, remote sensing phenomenology and technology, spacecraft and payload systems engineering
- Knowledge of spacecraft architectures and subsystems
- Highly collaborative & team player to support and communicate the BA leadership vision.
- Demonstrated experience with Mission Architecture and business strategy.
- Demonstrated experience developing product solutions and market opportunities for low-cost payloads and satellites for commercial and international customers.
- Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead cross-department project teams or manage across the enterprise.
