Media Relations Assistant

Job Title: Media Relations Assistant

Are you most fulfilled when writing pitches, editing copy, and doing research that drives strategic goals in a growing company helping nonprofit organizations thrive? Are your strong organizational and collaboration skills a key asset in prioritizing and managing time needed for projects? Through your analytical and problem-solving skills, have you found solutions to some of the stickiest and most complex puzzles? Is your willingness to be nimble an asset in adapting to changes in project requirements or priorities and being able to pivot the project strategy accordingly? If so, the Nonprofit Leadership Lab has an exciting opportunity for you.

As the Media Relations Assistant, you will have the opportunity to help a growing enterprise reach thousands of nonprofit leaders worldwide. This newly created position will support the Director of Communications and Partnerships in building non-digital earned media to increase exposure of the Lab to the nonprofit sector. The ideal candidate is someone who is driven, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities to improve project processes and workflows
  • Support the proactive outreach to media outlets, conference organizers, and other external contacts.
  • Assist Director in coordinating and managing projects from conception to completion using project management tools such as Monday.com.
  • Contribute to the development of plans and timelines.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation and correspondence.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure project deliverables are met on time.
  • Monitor project progress and identify and resolve any roadblocks or issues.

Requirements:

  • Excellent press pitch writing skills and a strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape, including various social media websites.
  • Strong interest in nonprofit leadership, tech-savvy, with an ability to be a critical thinker and an excellent communicator.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive, growth mindset.
  • Ability to research and concisely present findings.
  • Must have a strong willingness to be nimble and adapt to changes in project requirements or priorities.
  • Working hours: Primarily East Coast Time
  • Salary range: $25 per hour for approximately 20 hours a week

Additional Experience (Helpful):

  • Collaboration tools such as Slack, Zoom, and Google Workspace.
  • Document management tools such as Google Drive and Dropbox.
  • Media databases such as Cision, Prowly or other
  • Monday.com
  • AirTable
  • Canva
