Material Handler

Position Purpose
- Perform a variety of material handling duties for the Inventory Control department to support company departments responsible for customer on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Stock and maintain raw materials, work-in-process, manufactured, purchased parts and assemblies as designated by Supervisor and/or computer generated dispatch reports, Bills of Materials, pick lists, customer orders (CO), purchase orders, stock sheets, back order sheets, stock requisitions, and Job Operation Listings (JOL),
- Transfer, transport and stock materials that consist of various grades of steel plate, angles, bars and rounds, iron, steel and bronze castings, purchased parts and sub-assemblies by using a powered lift truck, various sizes of containers, pallets, pallet racks and bins.
- Pull customer orders (CO), and pump Job Order Listings (JOL) and audit 100% of orders before moving to Machining, Assembly and Shipping departments.
- Monitor shortage reports and fill shortage orders as soon as incoming material is available.
- Work with daily Dispatch Lists, in combination with Production Planning, to facilitate the on-time delivery of customer orders (CO) and job order lists (JOL) to the Shipping department.
- Work with daily Dispatch Lists for the Assembly department to ensure the timely completion of JOL’s.
- Work closely with and support all appropriate departments to ensure material availability for on-time schedule completion.
- Perform computer transactions, which may include the input of material receipts, cycle counts, stock adjustments, location of parts and inventory adjustments.
- Perform cycle counting of prescribed stock items and participate in taking physical inventories as assigned.
- Unload, uncrate or unpack materials and transfer to designated storage area using lift truck or by hand, as appropriate.
- Count, visually inspect and weigh count quantities of material pulled, and prepare for delivery as needed.
- Maintain individual and department working area in a neat and orderly condition, ensuring maximum efficiency and safety.
- Ability to handle hazardous materials based on defined procedures; certification for hazardous materials handling will be required.
- Observe all safety, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Relationships
- Position to report to Inventory Control Manager.
- No indirect reports.
- Internal relationships per the existing Weir Floway company structure with functional department heads and staff.
- External relationships may exist with select suppliers / vendors, customers and other Weir companies.
Performance Measures
- The proper reporting, recording and disposition of all Inventory Control processes and procedures per company and department requirements.
- Satisfactory maintenance of individual working area in a neat and orderly condition, and the use of “5S” practices in the individual work area.
- Adherence to, and achievement of, department and company policies and procedures.
- Teamwork and cooperation with department colleagues, company team members and management staff.
- On-time and accurate completion of assigned duties and objectives.
- Maintain good work attendance as prescribed by the Weir Floway Employee Handbook.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of heavy objects over 50 pounds. The work involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts, moving equipment (i.e. forklifts), rotating equipment or machines. Routine use of personal protective equipment is required and adherence to all safety precautions.
Education, Experience and Skills
- Forklift Certified.
- Computer Literate and computer experience.
- Requires the use of ordinary arithmetic in decimals and fractions.
- Ability to work with dispatch lists, receiving reports, shop orders, pick lists and sales orders.
- Certified for Hazardous Materials Handling or related experience which will allow for certification.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
