OVERVIEW
Conifer is looking for a passionate and proven Marketing and Communications Manager to help us showcase the next chapter of the company's narrative and amplify Conifer's voice and mission. This person is a natural storyteller who lives to provide thought leadership, get the best media coverage possible, and position Conifer in the best light for industry awards, conferences, and successful request for proposal submissions. The successful candidate understands evolving market trends, corporate reputation management, and media relationships and can connect the dots across a growing portfolio to create compelling storylines. S/he is a strong writer and communicator who loves to roll up their sleeves, working cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver top results. This person is motivated to make a difference in the world by educating and advocating for everyone to have access to high-quality, affordable housing.
In this role, you will oversee developing our media relations strategy by seeking interviews and guest appearances, drafting press releases, and helping to organize press events. As a communications lead, you will manage Conifer's external reputation and lead the development of crisis communications plans, including crisis response strategies, reactive statements, and FAQs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute media relations strategy in support of our brand strategy and lead crisis communication situations and response strategy.
- Research, promote, and track leadership participating in speaking engagements and industry events.
- Provide support by evaluating media opportunities and preparing team members for interviews.
- Build, maintain, promote, and recover a positive brand reputation across all mediums.
- Craft and track company and employee industry award submissions.
- Manage corporate sponsorship opportunities.
- Participate in trade shows and industry events.
- Copywriting – executive communications, bios, press releases, articles, ads, brochures, websites, etc.
- Monitor, measure, and track media coverage and PR results for Conifer and all its brands.
- Support broader company goals, continually evolving strategy alongside changing market and company circumstances.
- Manage/develop media relationships and media inquiries.
- Develop press kit materials for media outlets, including press releases, images, pitch letters, case studies, feature articles, and trend stories.
- Supports Development Team with marketing materials for a wide range of formats, including print, websites, request for proposal submissions, and external presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 6-8 years of media relations/corporate communications experience with expertise in crisis relations and reputation management required.
- Must love the art and science of media relations, PR, and thought leadership.
- Outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Proven results in developing and executing media relations strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, good judgment, and ability to effectively interface with employees and leaders at all levels.
- Ability to use interpersonal and negotiation skills to influence stakeholders, leaders, and others.
- Strong organizational skills; able to effectively prioritize assignments and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to make decisions regarding the best approach to protect Conifer's interests depending on a given business situation and advise/act accordingly.
- Ability to manage sensitive situations and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to travel as needed.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, emphasis in Journalism, English, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field preferred.
