Job Summary: Plans, organizes, and manages the platform engineering strategy and implementation for application delivery, automation, hosting and operations, unifying Application Development and Operations.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Leads and coordinates the analysis, design, development of technical specifications, programming, and testing of DevOps components and ensures all analysis and design models and specifications are created and maintained.
- Provides senior technical leadership and governance for key platform projects engaging with Project Office, Application Development, senior IT leadership, and other stakeholders. Provides expert advice on milestones, risks, and quality.
- Provides technical direction for the toolchains and platforms created to support advanced application delivery to the platforms.
- Works with Architecture council to define and document solution overview and definition of integration components and in accordance with enterprise vision/goals.
- Provides vision and strategic oversight during product evaluation, solution prototyping, and proof of concept activities for the platform.
- Partners with ISS leadership and Scrum Masters on the performance and work of team members, mentors team members with regards to technology best practices and standards and escalates any issues as they deem appropriate.
- Interviews, trains, develops, and evaluates staff to meet corporate goals and objectives.
- Serves as Product Owner in many capacities of the platform, helping the team manage the backlog of work, participating in PI Planning, and similar duties.
Perform other related assigned duties as necessary to complete the Primary Job Responsibilities as described above.
Position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related field and seven years' experience in DevOps, infrastructure, application design and/or programming with at least three years in team leadership. Will accept any suitable combination of education, training, or experience.
The position requires senior level working knowledge in multiple technology disciplines; possess strong knowledge of modern day DevOps principles, automated software delivery methodologies (CI/CD), knowledge of cloud technologies (e.g., OpenStack, AWS, etc.) knowledge of container concepts (e.g., Docker), knowledge of cloud orchestration concepts (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, etc.), and expertise with other Infrastructure deployment tools (e.g., Salt, Ansible, Chef, Terraform, Vagrant, etc.); working knowledge in infrastructure architecture (hardware, storage, clustering), networking, security (hardening concepts, compliance references) as they apply to Infrastructure as Code (IaC); solid background in Application Development (preferably Java, including all stages of the SDLC); well-versed in Agile Development and DevOps methodologies, including Continuous Integration, Automated Testing, and Continuous Delivery, comfortable working in both a strategic and tactical space, driving conversations with all levels of the organization (Developer, Enterprise Architect, CTO); understands the big picture when problem solving and be able to present solutions to complex problems in laymen’s terms to multiple audiences; ability to resolve & present highly complex problems using independent judgement, effective communication skills.
