Job Summary:

The primary role of the Patient Financial Services Manager is to oversee daily operations of the Patient Financial Services Department. The Manager is responsible for ensuring that policies and procedures are followed and ensures that the work completed by staff is accurate and completed timely. The Manager provides leadership support to the department supervisors, teams leads and staff to ensure the accuracy of the Financial Counseling process including notification of admissions, authorizations, POS collections, quality assurance on registrations and ensures department achieves the established performance goals. The Manager will ensure that there is excellent patient throughput, exemplary customer service and strategies to mitigate denials and registration errors.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the oversight of all financial counseling within the Patient Financial Services Department with primary focus on clinically, clerically and financially clearing bedded patients
  • Ensures that processes and procedures are in place that ensure that the role of financial counseling in the revenue cycle is effectively managed
  • Participates in Revenue Cycle Leadership meetings as required
  • Responsible for the education of all staff and must ensure all financial counseling staff is competent and recertified yearly on mandatory education.
  • Responsible to provide all Patient Financial Services staff including ancillary departments with weekly and monthly reporting of Key Performance Indicators
  • Manages department/staff and assures all issues are addressed and patients are financially cleared appropriately without delay
  • Delegates and prioritizes work assignments in relation to the patient s needs and staff s competence
  • Provides clear communication and expectations for staff around KPI s and goals
  • Responsible for ensuring that staff schedules, competencies and practices are managed appropriately
  • Ensures that all updates and changes in the financial counseling process are effectively communicated
  • Responsible for the productivity and performance of the department accountable for the performance, measurement, monitoring, and reporting of functional areas aligned with established management targets/KPIs
  • Communicates issues and policies to all staff members as it relates to department and ancillary areas
  • Informs staff of System updates and is responsible for providing any/all pertinent information related to registration issues.
  • Maintains open communications with management
  • Develop and update policies and procedures related to the functions and responsibilities of Patient Financial Services Department in conjunction with Senior leadership
  • Ensures that Patient Financial Services Department practices and operations are integrated with other clinical and hospital departments, along with the System Business Office Operations
  • Proactively manages the budgeted FTE s and overtime within their assigned areas
  • Provides excellent customer service to all patients, colleagues and other external and internal customers
  • Demonstrates a high level of efficiency, accuracy and productivity
  • Completes all other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years in management/leadership role
  • Minimum of 5 years Patient Access /Revenue Cycle experience
  • Knowledge in all aspects of registration, Non-Federal and Federal billing regulations, and state programs such as Charity Care
  • Medical terminology and computer skills
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of healthcare experience preferred
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm
  • Rotating holiday coverage

This is a remote/hybrid opportunity out of Oceanport, NJ, with on-site visits as needed to all 10 RWJBH hospital sites.
