Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Maintenance Mechanic Foreman for an assigned property with the responsibility for ensuring the performance of a variety of duties relative to the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, utilities, fixtures, and interior and exterior structures covering such trades as carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electricity, air-conditioning, plastering, roofing, painting, etc. The Maintenance Foreman supervises the installation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, and testing of new and existing systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises the maintenance and repair of the property’s buildings, grounds, utilities, fixtures, interior, and exterior structures, covering such trades as carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electricity, air-conditioning, plastering, roofing, painting, etc.;
  • Ensures preventive maintenance and the performance of routine and emergency repairs at the property;
  • Oversees the installation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, and testing of new and existing systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment;
  • Uses building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, electrical maintenance, and repair manuals in order to determine the nature and extent of repairs required;
  • Responsible for maintaining the property’s grounds and common areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition;
  • Conducts and/or directs inspections;
  • As necessary, personally performs trade work, which includes, but is not limited to (a) performing maintenance repair/services; (b) conducting visual examinations and operational tests to determine the need for and making needed repairs; and (c) installing, modifying, repairing, troubleshooting, and testing new and existing systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or GED and at least six (6) years of trade experience in maintenance mechanics work; at least one (1) year in a leadership or supervisory capacity; or other qualifying combinations of education and/or experience.

Due to field responsibility, the incumbent must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s permit; and be able to meet DCHA requirements to be placed on DCHA’s approved driving list within 30 days of the date of appointment to this position.

This position is designated as “essential.”
