Position: Lower School Grade 2 Teacher

The Baldwin School seeks applicants for the position of Grade 2 Teacher beginning in the 2023-24 school year with the responsibility for grade level classroom duties as well as core instruction in Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Social Studies. The successful candidate will possess excellent content knowledge; a love of working with students and creating a joyful learning environment; creativity and a thirst for innovation; a high level of energy and flexibility; a reflective and growth-oriented mindset; and a sense of humor. She or he will be able to inspire and empower students to learn; collaborate and engage in daily conversations and experiences with students and colleagues; possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; and commit to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. In addition to the duties described above, the successful candidate will support the school's mission, and contribute to the life of the school by fulfilling duties typical of independent day school life. Successful candidates will have an understanding of and appreciation for girls' education.
Responsibilities
- Develop a warm, inclusive and supportive classroom culture, establishing routines and building relationships with children and families.
- Use positive guidance, offering children helpful feedback and exhibiting patience, empathy, and respect.
- Collaborate with grade level partner to provide a cohesive learning environment for all students.
- Use Singapore Math in Focus and Journeys ELA as the foundational math and ELA tools, while incorporating additional curricular resources, to provide whole group, small group and individual instruction.
- Differentiate instruction and materials to meet the diverse academic, social and emotional needs of learners in the classroom.
- Successfully lead activities with large and small groups of children, including learning centers.
- Design hands-on, engaging learning activities that emphasize critical thinking and real-world problem solving while developing skill proficiency.
- Assess student progress and adjust teaching plans accordingly; provide students with regular and timely feedback about their progress.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary and project-based learning experiences.
- Maintain an ongoing dialogue with parents about student progress, through emails, phone calls, report-writing and in-person conferences.
- Maintain strong communication with colleagues, families, and administration.
- Use Seesaw learning platform as a primary means of sharing student work and progress with families.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education; Master's Degree preferred.
- 3-5 years teaching experience with young children.
- Experience with Responsive Classroom preferred.
- Experience with student-centered teaching, project-based learning, interdisciplinary curriculum planning, and authentic measures of student learning.
- Experience integrating technology into teaching practice to support learning and deepen projects (Google applications, MacBooks/iPads, Promethean Board, etc.)
- Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising and supporting students outside the classroom.
- A commitment to creating an inclusive classroom community and to working actively to introduce students to diverse cultures, experiences, and perspectives.
- Appreciation and understanding of DEI in practice.
