Job Description

This position is responsible for the coordination of Highland Hospital’s Leave Administration processes and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to the coordination and compliance regarding Workers’ Compensation, PFL, and Disability for Highland Hospital as well as The Highlands Living Center, The Highland’s at Pittsford and The Highlands at Brighton. Ensures compliance and communication for Family Medical Leave, Leaves of Absence and the Return to Work Program. This position is responsible for advising employees of their rights under federal and state medical leave laws as well as interpreting the applicable Highland Hospital policies. Requests for the various types of leave will be processed, tracked and monitored to ensure eligibility requirements are met, proper notification to the employee and their individual department is completed and Employee Health, the third-party administrators and other outside agencies are notified where appropriate. This position will also provide training and guidance to managers and supervisors regarding requirements of both state and federal law as well as various Highland Hospital leave policies and procedures. Makes recommendations for policy updates as necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in leave administration (DBL/PFL, FMLA, Worker’s Compensation) or;
  • minimum of Three 3) years of working experience in Leave Administration (DBL/PFL, FMLA, Worker’s Compensation);
  • License/Certification Required: N/A
  • Skills: Ability to utilize critical thinking skills in various situations. Understanding of the processing of workers’ compensation claims including NYS Workers’ Compensation Law, NYS Disability and FMLA preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, work-related injuries and occupational diseases preferred. Computer experience, especially in Internet claims databases to be able to utilize and generate reports. Must have a working knowledge of Excel formulas and spreadsheets. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to self-manage to meet regular deadlines.
