Overview:

We have a full-time opportunity for an experienced Shop Foreman, at our Oakland Leasing Location.

The Lead Diesel Mechanic is a “working” foreman and spends approximately 50% of the time working on jobs and 50% on leadership responsibilities. This position is responsible for performing all functions of a skilled diesel mechanic and will act as the supervisor and trainer for other Diesel Mechanics on the floor. The ideal candidate will be able to ensure optimal efficiency and quality by assisting mechanics with diagnostics, scheduling workflow and assigning mechanics to jobs appropriate to their skill levels, and helping mechanics prioritize their time.

Sign on bonus of up to $5,000 available depending upon experience/skill level

Responsibilities:

• Perform skilled and complicated heavy-duty truck diagnostics and repair with minimum supervision.
• Help the management team keep shop clean and safe. Work as a united team with the Leasing Manager to ensure technician team is made aware of and follows company policies and procedures including but not limited to post-accident & injury, meal & rest breaks, and EHS rules and regulations.
• Assist mechanics with difficult or high-priority repairs and ensure completion of proper documentation.
• Assist with adding jobs on repair orders in order to maintain a proper work flow in the absence of service advisor support.
• Assist mechanics with adding needed repair times in repair order stories in order for service advisors to have the ability to generate an accurate repair estimate for customers.
• Direct mechanics to perform required work within Standard Industry Repair Times for semi-trucks. Follow up as work is completed to ensure work is being properly performed and that customer expectations are met.
• Ensure inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies are appropriately stocked and protected from loss. Notify Leasing Manager of supply needs that are not being met and possible tool/equipment needs.
• Serve as leader and role-model conducting oneself with highest of ethical, professional, and safety standards, provide training to mechanics in areas of technical repair, shop procedures, etc. Appropriately escalate performance and any other employee-related concerns to the Leasing Manager.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years experience as a diesel technician & proficiency in all tools of the trade.
• Mack/Volvo Master tech certification or equivalent preferred.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Forklift Certification or ability to obtain.
• Ability to analyze processes and problems and recommend solutions.
• Ability to meet physical demands of the job with or without reasonable accommodation; performs work in safe and alert manner at all times.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Master-level knowledge of heavy-duty truck diagnosis and repair.
• Sound knowledge of shop operations and flow.
• General knowledge of truck parts inventory and sales process.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organization and time management skills
• Solid computer skills; ability to effectively utilize all required systems and programs.
• Strong diagnostic skills and basic understanding of diagnostic software.
• Professional demeanor (including ability to maintain composure in stressful situations).
• Ability to effectively train and coach varying levels of team member abilities.
• Professional appearance and excellent customer service skills
• Ability to navigate/interpret paper and electronic maps and directions while driving safely on freeways, side streets, main streets, etc.
• Ability to spend most of shift sitting in and operating a vehicle in safe and alert manner.
• Ability to accurately complete paperwork including delivery logs, invoice trackers, etc.
• Ability to meet all physical requirements of job in safe and alert manner, including lifting up to 50 lbs without assistance.
• Ability to maintain predictable and reliable attendance and work in a safe and alert manner.
• Valid driver's license and able to meet insurance requirements.
