Position: Laboratory Clinical Director

Reports to: Chief Clinical Officer and Laboratory Medical Director

Department: Laboratory

Location: Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Mountain Home.

Status: Full Time/Exempt

Purpose of the Job:

The Laboratory Clinical Director is responsible for the daily management of laboratory services and personnel. Work is performed under the direction of the Medical Director and the Chief Clinical Officer.

This role will develop and/or oversee processes to maintain efficiency, create unified staff to ensure the overall success of the clinic, and maintain professional leadership of these internal operations.

General Management Responsibilities of the Job:

· Manage day-to-day operations of the lab

· Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of efficient and effective laboratory protocols.

· Create an environment of the highest customer service in all areas.

· Supervise staff and may at times, serve as backup when necessary.

· Assure that all staff are properly trained in all job responsibilities and duties.

· Maintain medical laboratory staff results by counseling and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

· Maintain confidentiality in all matters.

· Communicate with other departments as needed to assure good patient flow, strong inter-department communication, to help create a general sense of team spirit between departments.

· Available to help and support other team members in their daily activity.

Technical Management Responsibilities of the Job:

· Ensures that staff members comply with all laboratory rules and regulations, including health and safety policies, to guarantee the highest quality of results.

· Maintain medical laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards, supervising quality control, and troubleshooting procedures, ensures staff compliance, certifies instrument performance, and arranges for equipment replacement, service, and repair.

· Maintain medical laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.

· Maintain medical laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustment.

· Complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.

· Maintain professional and technical knowledge by remaining up to date on federal, state, industry, employer, and CLIA standards. Attends educational workshops, establishes personal networks, and participates in professional societies.

· Monitor overtime and staff utilization

Qualifications:

· Must have strong attention to detail, and be able to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner

· Excellent communication and customer service skills required

· Ability to manage staff, to maximize productivity and maintain internal controls and processes.

· Strong computer skills / EMR proficiency / LabDaq

· The ability to remain calm and display flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.

Education and Experience:

· Management experience required.

· Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, or clinical laboratory science.

Physical Requirements

There are extended periods of standing for work. There may be times that items greater than ten pounds may need to be lifted or carried.
