HVAC Mechanic
Qualifications:
● High School diploma, required
● Vocational/technical school training or apprenticeship, required
● Minimum of 7-10 years in HVAC maintenance, repairs and service calls.
● Experience in PC based building management systems.
● Knowledge of plumbing and electrical trades is preferred.

Proven ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds including administrators, teachers, staff, parents, guardians, students and community members. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, mechanical skills as well as the ability to recognize need for repairs; the ability to operate and perform minor servicing on light power equipment; the ability to follow written and oral instruction; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
General Duties:
Working with a minimum of supervision, the HVAC Mechanic will maintain and manage a variety of HVAC systems across all Municipal Buildings; judgment is necessary to select the appropriate procedure or instruction to pursue. Accuracy and dependability, as well as the ability to meet deadlines and preventive maintenance schedules, are important aspects of the position.. Requires knowledge of various types of HVAC systems, controls and building maintenance systems. Routine tasks of filter changes and preventative maintenance and schedules. Assures safe and compliant operations of all HVAC systems. The HVAC Mechanics provides preventative maintenance schedules and brings questionable cases to their supervisor for discussion and resolution. The HVAC Mechanic must observe the standard practices of any and all state, federal, and local laws, rules and regulations. Performs skilled HVAC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. In response to scheduled and work requests, checks, troubleshoots and/or diagnoses heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration systems and ancillary equipment troubles. Determines extent of problems and makes necessary repairs or alterations to damaged or inoperative equipment or apparatus.
2. Repairs and replaces defective and damaged parts and equipment, including but not limited to: compressors, motors, fans, controls, belts, regulators, valves, piping and fittings, duct work, pneumatic and computerized control systems, air conditioning, VRF and refrigeration systems and other similar components.
3. Manages, repairs and installs new DDC systems. Manages and updates building management systems. Calibrates and programs DDC and pneumatic and indoor air quality systems.
4. Responds to HVAC emergencies as needed and takes appropriate action for temporary and permanent repairs to minimize damage and/or disruption to building operations. Available to respond to emergency calls.
5. Performs similar or related work as directed, or as situation dictates.
Working Conditions: Requires physical abilities required to work on HVAC units. There may be prolonged period of standing, kneeling, crawling, or climbing ladders. Must be able to work in settings with extreme cold or extreme heat. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Work requires direct contact with staff, students and families, and community members.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification: This position is classified as non-exempt
Terms of Employment: This is a 12 month position and is covered by the provisions set forth in the SEIU - Maintenance Unit Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employed based on successful completion of CORI and SAFIS background checks.
