General Description of the Job Class

Performs specialized healthinformation activities neces sary to organize, maintain, and use electronicpatient health records. Po sitions at this level have high customer service,strong analytic and pro blem solving skills, require interpretation andexplanation of policy and internal requirements related to health recorddocumentation and complet ion, Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations andorganization-wide fu nctions and policies and procedures. Specific jobresponsibilities are ba sed on the service unit within Health InformationManagement assigned and include: Performs HIPAA compliant screening of incomingrequests for pro tected health information of our patients, distribution ofmedical record s, deficiency management to assure compliance with federal andstate regu latory and accrediting body requirements for health record contentand ti mely completion and document management to include the capture of health records in an electronic format. Excellent computer skills are required tocomplete basic to intermediate tasks within Maestro Care, Solarity, Hy landOnBase and other related applications.

Performs preliminary screening of authorization (pursuant toS tate and Federal Privacy Laws), enters requests for information into Mae stroCare Release of Information Module, and returns to requestor with ex planationif invalid.

Manage tasks associated with the HIM ROI Cus tomer Serviceoffice to include greeting visitors, providing guidance for requesting medicalrecords, completing the authorization for disclosure, verifyingpatient/personal representative authority/identify and facilit ates same daycustomer service by coordination with ROI team.

Serve s as front line support through receipt of telephonecalls from third par ty requestors and patients asking for the status of medicalrecord reques ts. Assists requestors inunderstanding the requirements for submission of a HIPAA compliantauthorization, provides explanation for canceled req uests and responds togeneral inquiries about obtaining medical records, navigation of MyChart andbasic Care Everywhere inquiries.

Requir es a high level of communication and customer service skills toappropria tely assess and respond to customers while de-escalating issues whennece ssary.

Responsible for verifying accuracy of patient selection on each page/image of records prepared for disclosure and packages requeste drecords for delivery through paper print, CD or electronic submission.

Performs other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications


Education

High school or GED diploma required


Experience

2 years of experience in Health Information Management, Document Management, or Healthcare Related Field required Associates / Bachelors Degree in Healthcare, Business, IT, or Related Field can substitute for 2 years' experience Associates Degree in HIT preferred
