As a General Sales Manager, you will be expected to oversee the sales activities of the sales department of our car dealership. General Sales Managers are responsible for sales and for creating a high-performance and successful sales team. Our general sales managers understand the market, manage the sales personnel, understand the sales departments' financial data and deliver the best customer service. As a General Sales Manager, your job duties will include: hiring and training sales staff, ensuring that the department meets its sales targets and customers' expectations and developing a departmental strategic plan.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops sales financial goals (budgets) with GM and monitors these goals on an ongoing basis.
  • Monitors sales & profitability on a weekly/monthly basis.
  • Works with the GM to develop action plans to correct performance as necessary.
  • Evaluates department personnel with the GM to ensure we continually have the right candidate at the right time for the right position.
  • Develops relationships externally to reach out and solicit highly qualified candidates who would add to the franchise team.
  • Assists in the recruiting and interviewing for franchise positions.
  • Works with the management team to develop and implement on-going sales team improvement plans.
  • Coaches, develops and serves as a resource to team members.
  • Monitors the performance of team members towards their annual goals. Ensures team members complete all required manufacturer training.
  • Interact with customers and manufacturing representatives
  • Analyze customer satisfaction reports - Understanding customer experiences helps sales managers make recommendations to improve customer service and retention.
  • Develops appropriate relationships with manufacturer-partners to enhance the reputation of the group.
  • Manages the incoming and current inventory in the new car department to ensure the right mix and quantity
  • Works with GM and Marketing Department to develop effective advertising campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Experience Required: A minimum of (5) years in position of Automotive Sales/Finance Manager or similar positions in Automotive industry.
  • Required: Current California Driver License with clean Department of Motor Vehicle driving record.
  • Required: Current California Sales License.
  • Effectively manage 5-10 direct reports, clearly defining priorities and expectations
  • Develop and challenge employees to be high performing
  • Establish a sales driven culture by setting clear and measurable sales goals
  • Provide ongoing feedback and education (as needed by each employee) to optimize their performance. Complete performance reviews and manage any performance issues that arise
