B assett Healthcare Network, a major teaching affiliate of Columbia University, is seeking a Chief for our Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM). Bassett is a culturally connected, engaging, and progressive independent academic health system in central upstate New York. The DGIM, located on the network’s main campus in historic Cooperstown, provides both inpatient and ambulatory services to our predominantly rural patient population. The Cooperstown campus is the major clinical site for our internal medicine residency, and DGIM plays a significant role in resident education and supervision.

B assett Healthcare Network is a rural integrated health care system serving an eight-county, Connecticut-sized 5,600 square mile region of central New York. In addition to the flagship referral hospital in Cooperstown, the network includes a community hospital in Oneonta, three critical access hospitals, several skilled nursing facilities, over thirty community and school-based health centers, and health partners in related fields. Over 700 network-employed physicians and advanced practice clinicians provide state-of-the-art care to nearly 250,000 patients in our catchment area.
T he Division of General Internal Medicine is an NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home, Level 3 Recognized practice. We use fully integrated EPIC as our inpatient and ambulatory EMR.
W e seek a dynamic individual to provide strategic leadership and direction for the division. In addition to maintaining their own clinical practice, the division chief will be active in resident education and provide clinical and administrative oversight of DGIM’s group practice that sees approximately 35,000 clinic visits annually on the Cooperstown campus.

ob Summary:
J oin the division’s remarkable team of General Internists and Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs). You will be supported by the Bassett network’s full range of hospital-employed medical and surgical subspecialists as well as by the clinic’s dedicated nursing and administrative staff. Features of the position include:
• Clinical teaching in general internal medicine and/or geriatrics
• Secondary call coverage – we have a first-call system in place with a nurse practitioner or physician assistant answering all calls from your patients
• Faculty appointment from Columbia University, routine interaction with medical students, Internal Medicine, and Transitional-Year interns and residents
• Primarily outpatient practice with opportunities for inpatient teaching-service rotations
• Excellent technological support
• In-basket assistants and virtual scribes are available if desired
Job Qualifications:
• Creative problem solving skills needed to adapt our practice to the ever changing healthcare environment and to ensure both patient and healthcare team satisfaction
• Collegial leadership style and ability to maintain our positive and collaborative work environment
• Successful track record in administration; experience in finance and strategic planning desired but not required
• Interest in rural communities and the challenges they face maintaining health and access to high quality medical care
• Enthusiasm for and experience in clinical teaching of general internal medicine and geriatrics
