Job Summary
Primarily accountable for making accurate and detailed track and tie inspections. Prioritize defects, classify the required repairs, and make recommendations for resolution to ensure their safety for train movement.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

• Physically walk the track to inspect specific track component conditions (ties, rail, ballast, turnouts, etc)
• Record accurate measurements on components inspected to include marking the ties and/or rail and recording measurement values and observed data in the computer and/or a hand-held electronic recording device such as a Samsung Smartphone
• Coordinate inspection schedules and review condition results with zone engineering and system managers
• Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager
  

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• 3 or more years of experience in 3 or more years of experience required in Track Maintenance & Inspection

Preferred Qualifications

• Associates Degree/2-year Degree
• 3 or more years of experience in 3 or more years of experience as a Track Supervisor, Track Supervisor II, Director of Track
• 5 or more years of supervisory experience in 5 or more years of supervisory experience in Track Maintenance & Inspection

Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of CSX Safety and Operating Rules
• Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Track Standards and CSX Track Standards
• Intermediate Computer Skills (MS Office Suite)
• Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing
• Proficiency with track measurement tools (rail wear gauges, Portable Track Loading Device, gage and level board, etc.)

Job Requirements

• Hours which include rotating on-call responsibilities which may be outside standard hours
• May be required to complete a background check
• Wear protective equipment (such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection)

• Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard work week)
• On the road as often as possible
