Title of Position: Pro Shop Assistant Manager

Department: Golf Course

Reports To: Golf General Manager

Status: Exempt

General Summary:

Under the supervision of the Golf General Manager of The Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills, the Pro Shop Assistant Manager assists in the oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the Pro Shop and Outside Services, which includes the cart barn, practice facility, and the Cottonwood Lodge Restaurant operations, while promoting the interest in the sport of golf and use of the golf course.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists in managing the facility and staff; understands complete operation of the Pro Shop and Outside Services.
  • In absence of the Golf General Manager and Associate Golf Professionals, assumes management responsibilities for golf course operations.
  • Assists in the administration of the Pro Shop by preparing daily cash deposits and reports.
  • Responsible to open and close the pro shop as assigned, including supervision of starting times and play on the golf course; assists with tournaments, enforces golf rules and regulations; monitors the course to regulate play and conduct of players.
  • Assists with supervision, timekeeping and training of all part-time staff working in the pro shop, cart barn, and practice facility.
  • Assists in merchandising of Pro Shop to include purchases, displays, pricing and inventory.
  • Assists with the planning, execution and supervision of the Junior Golf program and group instruction.
  • Assists in the supervision of the maintenance/repair and rotation of all golf carts.
  • Assists with managing of the general operation of the cart barn and practice facility.
  • Maintains an effective guest relations program.
  • Assists the Golf General manager and Associate Golf Professionals in the organization, execution, and promotion of all special events.
  • Assists in the liaison duties with the Men’s, Ladies’, and Seniors Golf Clubs.
  • Assists in the management and execution of outside events and tournament play.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in a high paced environment with multiple distractions.
  • Basic knowledge of the game of golf, the flow of golf courses and execution of a reservations system.
  • Knowledge of computers and POS; must also be able to process and balance daily receipts.
  • Ability to coordinate and expedite golf activities such as tournaments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with golf course staff and guests.
  • Must be able to perform multiple tasks with many interruptions.
  • Must be able to work with little to no supervision and be enthusiastic, self-motivated and a team player.
  • Must be able to demonstrate and train staff with excellent customer service skills.

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

  • Must be able to perform a varied work schedule: nights, weekends and holidays are required.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather may also be from extreme cold to extreme heat.
  • May work near moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work area is moderately quiet.
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Education/Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience working in a reservations or retail operation. College/University course work in Recreation, Physical Education, Business Management, Finance or Accounting may be substituted for up to six (6) months experience working in a golf shop or other retail/reservation operations. PGA affiliation/experience helpful. Must possess a valid State of Colorado Driver License.
