Position Title: Gardener/Maintenance Technician

Position Description: This a full-time position in which the team member will be a member of the Maintenance Team, performing gardening services during the growing season and maintenance tasks as assigned by the Chief Engineer during the winter season.

Reports To: Chief Engineer

Job Function:

During the Growing Season. Will be responsible for actively and properly maintaining the community landscape according to the Tilden Gardens landscape plan, including all lawns, sunken gardens, green roof gardens (two roof gardens are accessible only by ladder), shrubs, groundcover, landscape beds, landscape understory trees, vines, flowers, and irrigation. Will be a liaison between TGI and its professional landscape contractor.

Assist the maintenance team when needed for emergencies, special projects, or garden related projects.

During Winter Season. Will be an active member of the maintenance team, performing maintenance tasks as assigned by the Chief Engineer.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Gardener Specific Duties:

• Performs daily general plant care, garden maintenance, and essential garden duties, relying on knowledge of horticulture and plant care techniques: weeding, planting, pruning, mowing, blowing, edging, aerating, and fertilizer application.
• Operates machinery and equipment used in the performance of gardening duties.
• Advises on landscape improvements, design, and priorities, and recommends, orders, and installs nursery plants and other landscaping materials.
• Other gardening tasks as assigned.

General Maintenance Duties:

• Performs routine maintenance of TGI grounds, buildings, and equipment to include, but not limited to, working with and repairing drywall/plastering, plumbing, and electrical components.
• Work alongside contractors in completing property wide repairs to include, but not limited to, working with and repairing drywall/plastering, plumbing, and electrical components.
• Perform in unit maintenance services consistent with TGI’s In Unit Maintenance Program to include but not limited to, installation/removal of window a/c units. drywall/plastering repairs, plumbing repairs, leak investigation, minor misc. repairs, etc.
• Observe, assess, and communicate potential maintenance issues.
• Perform after hours services for emergency situations in accordance with internal procedures and on call rotation schedule.
• Operates machinery and equipment used in the performance of maintenance duties.
• Other maintenance task as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Must have demonstrated skills in gardening work and 3 or more years of experience in an institutional setting where gardening is practiced. A horticultural certificate is a plus.
• Must have experience and knowledge of native plant species and plant care, and local climate and seasons.
• Experience with building systems, plumbing, minor electrical work, painting/plastering, carpentry is a plus.
• Must have working knowledge of English and good communication skills.
• Previous experience in maintenance or other related field.
• Familiarity with gardening and maintenance tools and equipment
• Must be able to work independently in the gardens.
• Must be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
