Summary/Objective

As a first line of defense in the Fraud Investigation Unit, the Fraud Analyst is responsible for creating a robust infrastructure in which data is collected, analysis is performed, and reporting is created. Through this data-driven process, the analyst will identify patterns, and recommend risk-mitigating strategies to prevent fraud and improve future detection. The analyst will collaborate with senior leaders across Risk, Legal and Operations departments to design and test fraud methodology, document investigative activity, and prepare written reports.

This is an on-site role in Spartanburg, SC.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leverage appropriate resources to ensure relevant information is appropriately collected, analyzed, and disseminated to support the identification and initiation of fraud investigations.
  • Apply investigative techniques to identify and research unusual behavior within accounts to detect suspicious activity.
  • Assist in evaluating business processes for associated risks to ensure proper controls are in place and prepare written findings and recommend strategies when deficiencies are identified.
  • Prepare organized accurate and competent reports and presentations, ensuring accurate documentation of analytical activity.
  • Communicate timely and accurately with Fraud Specialist team to disseminate identified cases for further investigation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Information Security, or Accounting is required.
  • SQL, Python, Data Grip or other data mining tool experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Previous data analytics or data mining skills a plus.
  • Experience in process improvement a plus.
  • Strong initiative, integrity, and work ethic with a growth mindset.
  • Preparatory skills in analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to comprehend policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Aptitude to draw conclusions and summarize findings both verbally and in writing.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours may vary or exceed 40 in any given week, depending on the needs of the business.

Travel

Up to 10% travel is expected for this position.
