Purpose of Your Job Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to work with the Food Service Director in planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of the Food Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that quality nutritional services are provided on a daily basis and that the Food Services Department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.

  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Food Services Department, its programs, and activities.
  • Assume administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of supervising the Food Services Department.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining written food services policies and procedures.
  • Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, government agencies, etc., as necessary.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, evaluations, studies, etc., to assure control of equipment and supplies.
  • Inspect food storage rooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control.
  • Process Menu Changes
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining an ongoing quality assurance program for the Food Services Department.
  • Participate in facility surveys inspections made by authorized government agencies.
  • Supervise preparation and service of food.
  • Supervise sanitation and housekeeping procedures in the Kitchen area. Maintain
  • safety standards.
  • Visit customers to routinely discuss their food preferences and nutritional needs.
  • Assist in the Dining Room to assure Excellent Dining Experience
  • Attend department head meetings, etc., as scheduled, or as may be called
  • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of food services personnel.
  • Determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the Food Services Department’s needs and assign enough food services personnel for each tour of duty.
  • Counsel/discipline food services personnel as requested or as necessary.
  • Provide on-going in-service training periodically.
  • Make daily rounds to assure that food services personnel are performing required duties and to assure that appropriate food services procedures are being rendered to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Ensure that all food services personnel attend and participate in annual in-service training programs e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, etc.

Qualifications:

Must possess leadership responsibility and the willingness to cooperate with other staff and managers; must have the ability to plan and organize the Kitchen; must have thorough knowledge of dietary management, menu planning, and diet therapy; must possess sound knowledge in cost accounting, record keeping, budget planning and purchasing procedures.
