The Opportunity

The Experienced Core Design Engineer position is within the PWR Codes & Methods Development organization in the Fuel Business Unit which is responsible for a broad range of activities including engineering code development and maintenance, topical report development and submittals, and first-of-a-kind core design and subsequent neutronics, thermal hydraulic, and safety analyses. The engineering activities are coordinated with other Framatome fuel engineering departments both locally and worldwide.

What You’ll Do at Framatome

You will be responsible for creating optimized PWR core designs for R&D development studies or first-of-a-kind applications and performing subsequent nuclear physics calculations to support downstream analyses.

Typical assignments include:

• Creating cross sections of various fuel assembly lattice designs
• Designing new and shuffling old fuel assemblies in a pattern that leads to optimal energy requirements while maintaining safety parameters
• Calculating neutronics parameters and providing inputs for downstream analyses
• Analyzing and documenting results
• Working with code developers to create new or revise existing codes and automation tools associated with core design
• Working with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful customer delivery

Who You Are

You are experienced with pressurized water reactors and have performed multiple core designs in your career. You have knowledge on how to control certain core physics parameters based on varying fuel assembly enrichment and poison. You display positive and effective team interaction skills and value positive peer relationships. You place a focus on leadership and initiative and can be counted on to maintain focus on customer requirements and developing other engineers. You have developed excellent written and oral communication skills and have a passion for problem solving.

What You’ve Accomplished

You will have completed a BS in Nuclear Engineering or a related engineering degree. You may have also obtained an advanced degree in similar fields. You have worked in an engineering role for at least 7 years and are ready to join Framatome and help deliver clean, safe energy and advance nuclear technology.

Our total rewards package

The range of base salary for the position is between $106,000 - $143,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
