Albany Technical College seeks a well-qualified, highly motivated individual to fill the position of Environmental Horticulture Technology Chairperson/Instructor. Under general supervision of the Dean, the instructor will provide quality instruction for Environmental Horticulture Technology courses to students at the Albany, GA campus. He/she will prepare lesson plans and deliver instruction through innovative methods that are more hands-on, project-based and experiential learning. The EHT Instructor will Identify and prepare instructional materials that will enhance student learning and are relevant to industry, and will provide learner guidance and academic advisement to students. He/she will evaluate student’s progress and performance in attaining goals and objectives, prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports, maintain a safe and secure classroom environment and prepare lesson plans and deliver classroom, laboratory, and on-line instructions for all Environmental Horticulture Technology courses. The EHT Instructor will develop and follow course syllabi for courses, provide a high quality of instruction, develop and implement student assessment strategies that will evaluate student progress and learning outcomes, keep an accurate record of student grades and attendance, and adhere to established deadlines. Within the past seven years, work experience should include competencies, skills, and knowledge level at which the instructor will be expected to teach. The EHT instructor will be responsible for recruitment and retention for the program. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, have functional knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, possess appropriate diplomacy and critical thinking skills, and have excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational skills. The ability to work a flexible schedule, including online, day, evening and/or weekend classes, and travel within the Service Delivery Area is vital. Environmental Horticulture experience is highly emphasized. This is a ten (10) month position.

Minimum Qualifications: The applicant MUST have an Environmental Horticulture Diploma *OR* a higher degree in closely related field from an accredited technical or community college or four-year institution *AND* at least 3 of the last 7 years employed in the Horticulture field.

Preferred Qualifications: The applicant MUST have an Associate of Applied Science Degree from a regional accredited technical/community college or university in Environmental Horticulture Technology or related program *AND* have 5 years of work related experience. The applicant MUST have specialized training and certifications (Georgia Pesticide Applicators Licenses) related to Environmental Horticulture *AND* have experience teaching adult students in post-secondary education*AND* experience working with adult students in higher education.

Physical Demands: Responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for up to three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts lightweight objects up to 50 LBS. The exposure to dirt, dust, chemicals, fumes, and hazardous materials is possible in the laboratory environment. The ability to distinguish colors and finger dexterity is required. Hand and finger motion may be required for data entry purposes.

Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
