Job Description:
Ensure compliance with Regulatory and Company Safety and DOT mandates, including policies, procedures, programs, Code of Conduct, and Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements. Provide support as needed to the Environmental Safety Managers in the Company. The position is responsible for implementing the corporate Safety and DOT programs on a regional level, while also contributing to the development and implementation of the programs on a national level. This includes overseeing regional Safety and DOT activities such as training, auditing management for safety accountability, investigating accidents, root cause analysis, recordkeeping, reporting and the monitoring of compliance programs. The successful candidate will be interfacing with hourly employees and Executive level management, and key client organizations and regulatory agencies on behalf of the Company. Monitors changes to Safety and DOT laws and regulations and their impact on the organization, including the preparation, maintenance and update of Safety & DOT policies and procedure manuals. Analyze and identify field risks and develop loss prevention programs to address identified issues and reduce workplace injuries. Work with the Worker’s Compensation Process and Claims’ Management Team. Responsible for travelling as needed to ensure adequate field oversight, meet with clients and peer organizations and to conduct safety audits/observations as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Requires independent and strategic thinking to implement position responsibilities. Ability to develop comprehensive and effective loss prevention training and related programs to promote compliance with Safety and DOT regulations and minimize workplace injuries. Must be proficient in computer usage, including Microsoft Office suite. Working familiarity with Federal, State and Local Safety and DOT regulatory requirements. Generally, requires a BS/BA degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience in Safety; or 8 years’ experience in a related discipline with project management or compliance oversight responsibilities. Experience in accident investigations and root cause analysis. Should have safety implementation and oversight experience in a management role, including field observations. Preference will be given to individuals with professional credentials such as CSP or CIH and/or health and safety experience in telecommunications outside plant environment. Solid communication skills, including oral, written and interpersonal. Ability to work in a union environment and with Executive Management. Strong Leadership skills, including oversight of management in the field.

Exceptional communication skills as well as excellent writing, research, analytical skills and project management skills. Experience working in a corporate union environment. Experience in Federal Safety and DOT requirements. Familiarity with the Worker’s Compensation Claims Process. Results driven, detail oriented, able to anticipate needs and issues and proactively identify appropriate solutions. Strong ability to work independently and multi-task with the ability to maintain confidential information. Possess excellent computing skills (Microsoft Office suite).
Knowledge and Skills
Requires a range of skills within Safety and DOT loss prevention and compliance, including familiarity with principles, theories, concepts and technologies as well as applied knowledge of established procedures, policies, requirements and practices.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, environmental sciences or related field. Generally, requires minimum of 4 yrs. experience in safety & health or a related discipline.
