ENGINEERING AIDE/CAD
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
GME-CT Bargaining Unit, Grade Classification 7
Under the general supervision of the City Engineer or other designated staff, performs accurate and responsible electronic plan preparation, office and field engineering or surveying work under direction, requiring the application of civil engineering principles and practice. The Engineering Aide will perform a variety of administrative, technical and analytical supportive tasks, including assisting with GIS data creation, data maintenance, and GPS data collection as required. Assists with other Departmental functions as required. On a regular and continuous basis, exercises administrative judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences and results having an impact on people, costs and/or quality of service. This is a union position. Starting Pay is $22.45 per hour with a competitive benefits package.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:
- Two-year technical degree or equivalent education and training in engineering or related field.
- Experience using AutoCAD, ESRI and GIS applications. Experience using Adobe InDesign and Trimble SketchUp. Experience in using BS&A modules preferred.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
- Maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Shall be certified by the State of Michigan to monitor soil erosion projects and storm-water projects.
Knowledge of:
- Expertise and knowledge of engineering principles and mathematical ideas.
- Expertise and knowledge of the principles and practices of infrastructure plan review and construction.
- Expertise and knowledge of MDOT project related software programs such as MERL and Field Manager.
- Thorough knowledge of modern office procedures and practices.
- Knowledge and ability to use of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel. Google Suite: Email, Calendar, Hangouts, Meet, BS&A Modules.
- Expertise and knowledge of AutoCAD, ESRI and GIS applications, including Adobe InDesign and Trimble SketchUp.
- Residency requirement: 20-mile radius from nearest City limit.
